The Analysis of Selected Monthly Temperature Time Series in Europe
Janoutová, Eva ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Bašta, Milan (referee)
This Bachelor´s thesis is focused on analysis of time series of monthly mean temperatures and monthly maximum temperatures. These temperatures are observed on eight meteorological stations between the years 1949-2013. The data were obtained from the database of European Climate Assessment & Data. Stations are divided into two groups according to Köppen climate classification. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to observe and compare the development of individual time series in both groups using basic characteristics and methods based on time series decomposition and to verify that the observed station´s climate type classification is correct. Another aim is to verify the hypothesis that monthly mean temperatures and monthly maximum temperatures has increased in the observed period.
Attribution of European temperature variability during 1882–2010: A statistical perspective
Mikšovský, Jiří ; Pišoft, P.
Gridded monthly temperature data (GISTEMP and Berkeley Earth) covering the European region were investigated for the presence of components attributable to climate forcings, both anthropogenic and natural, and to major modes of internal climate variability. Effects of individual predictors were separated by multiple linear regression applied to time series over 1882–2010. It was shown that the presence of a warming trend correlated with greenhouse gases concentration was generally strong in European temperatures and typically combined with mild cooling ascribable to anthropogenic aerosols. Components attributable to variations in solar activity were rather weak and not statistically significant in most locations, as were the imprints of large volcanic eruptions. A strong association between North Atlantic Oscillation phase and temperature was confirmed for much of Europe, while temperature oscillations synchronized with the El Niño Southern Oscillation were quite limited in magnitude and displayed low levels of statistical significance. The influence of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation was noticeable particularly in the western-most parts of Europe, whereas the Pacific Decadal Oscillation’s significant impact extended to Scandinavia.
The impact of Nuclear Power Plant Temelin on the climate of surrounding area
BARÁTOVÁ, Michaela
BARÁTOVÁ, M. (2012): The impact of Nuclear Power Plant Temelin on the climate of surrounding area. Bachelor Thesis. University of South Bohemia, Pedagogical faculty, Department of Geography. 128 pages Nuclear power plant Temelin is a dominant, which forms silhouette of the Ceskobudejovicka basin. It is a construction, which faces and resists criticism from environmental organizations. Benefit or threat to South Bohemia? Undoubtebly, the area of disputes between politicians of Czech Republic and Austria. This bachelor thesis evaluates especially climate impacts of Nuclear Power Plant Temelin. Theoretical - methodological base is mainly focused on the discussion of literature, in general and in specific terms researched the topic and related hypotheses. General section then describes the basic physical - geographical characteristics of the selected area, special emphasis is placed on climatography. An integral part of the general section is a brief description of working the youngest European power plant. The analytical section is dedicated to monitoring climate of surrounding area ETE using data that was recorded by Observatory Czech Hydrometeorological Office in Temelin and the results are compared with data that were recorded during the same period by in České Budějovice. The monitoring of climate surrounding area of Nuclear Power Plant is assessed from two perspectives. The first view sees the climate before the start of nuclear power plants in operation, so from 1989 to 2001; the second look is focused on changes which was formed after the running of nuclear power plants in 2002. The analytical part shows the possible changes in selected climatic characteristics that could be caused by cooling tower plume.

Cílem dílčího projektu 01 je kompletně zpracovat Atlasu podnebí České republiky pro všechny hlavní klimatické charakteristiky. Po prověření reálného stavu dat a možností jejich zpracování bylo navrženo doplnění průvodních osmi částí Atlasu (teplotní charakteristiky, srážkové charakteristiky, charakteristiky sněhové pokrývky, vlhkost vzduchu, sluneční záření, sluneční svit a oblačnost, tlak vzduchu a vítr, nebezpečné atmosférické jevy, fenologické charakteristiky) o samostatné kapitoly teplota půdy, dynamická klimatologie a klasifikace podnebí. v roce 2004 byly řešeny tyto úkoly: Dokončení inventarizace dat pro jednotlivé prvky; Vyhodnocení a výběr vhodné sítě stanic; Rekonstrukce chybějících údajů (pro vlhkost vzduchu, oblačnost, sluneční svit a záření, fenologické charakteristiky a nebezpečné atmosférické jevy a Vypracování metodiky zpracování jednotlivých charakteristik. Studie obsahuje návrh obsahu Atlasu podnebí ČR.

Analysis of climatological time series for selected places in Europe in the years 1961-2010
Míka, Tomáš ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Bašta, Milan (referee)
This bachelor thesis preoccupied with the analysis climatological time series mesured at seven selected meterological stations located throughout the European continent. The underlying data for this analysis were obtained from publicly available European database of ECA&D. The analysis is focused on calculation of the basic charakteristic and decomposition of time series. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine development of the time series of average monthly temperatures and precipation in the period 1961 - 2010 for individual weather stations and these data analyzed to compare with each other and explore similiraties and differences in temperature and precipation from individual station, not only in term of time but also terms of space. This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical and generally discribes statistical methods. The second key part (practical) is devoted data processing and analysis of the time series.
Evaluation of hydrological and climatic features of fast growing trees for energy use
Weger, J. ; Šír, Miloslav
Microclimatic changes in plantations of fast growing trees (FGT) against grassland consist in reducing the max. daily air temperatures of ground in sunny and warm days to 4 to 5º C, when is available soil water for transpiration. Minimum temperatures of ground air are significantly less affected; they are generally higher under canopy of FGT. Daily air humidity on hot days is usually greater in plantations of FGT than in grassland. In the growing season, soil temperatures are lower in plantations of FGT than in the stands under grass cover. Reduction of daily air temperatures and soil temperatures under canopy of FGT is mainly due to the cooling effect of transpiration. Shielding effect of high vegetation is not the dominant cause of temperature reduction. Large-scale plantations of FGT will have no observable effect on the temperature of the countryside or on the hydrological cycle. They will not cause land draying and reduction of runoff from the landscape.
Analysis of Temperature Time Series Measured by Stations Praha - Ruzyně and Brno - Tuřany between 1999 and 2008
Vraná, Lenka ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Bašta, Milan (referee)
This thesis is focused on analyzing time series of monthly average air temperatures measured at 7 AM, 2 PM and 9 PM, by climatological stations Brno - Tuřany and Praha - Ruzyně. The objective of this thesis is to employ basic time series analysis methods and to apply statistical software, concretely SPSS Statistics 17.0 and Statgraphics Centurion XVI. It deals especially with calculation of basic characteristics, time series decomposition (classical model) and description of their trend and seasonal component. This thesis examines if there is any resemblance in the progress of the series, which were measured by the same station at different times or at the same time by different stations. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part, there is a theoretical description of time series analysis methods and the analysis itself is in the second part.
