Hucul - adept at hippotherapy
Dvořáková, Barbora ; Neumann, Cyril (advisor) ; Starostová, Lucie (referee)
This bachelor thesis studies the possibilities of use of the hucul horse for the purpose of hippotherapy. Based on researches published in various articles and literature, we try to evaluate the suitability of the hucul horse for a horse assisted treatement. In order to make an objective assessment of the convenience of use of the hucul horse in hippotherapy, we firstly focuss on the history of this versatile breed from its first mentions through current state of hippotherapy in the Czech Republic up to critera of choice of the suitable hippotherapeutical horse and confrontation of these criteria with the character of the hucul horse. First, we describe the origins of the small mountain horse Hucul that emerged with the eponym ethnic group inhabiting the eastern Carpathians. Further we study qualities and characteristics that this breed adopted living in a fairly inhospitable mountain environment and that really makes these horses unique comparing to other breeds. Next we summarize the breed standards as described in the studbook. The chapter on the current state of farming hucul horse then covers its use in our country and in the world as well as discusses the Hucul International Federation, an international association concerned with hucul breeding in seven European countries. Particular attention is paid to the current situation in the Czech Republic. In the chapter about hippotherapy we name the purposes for which this treatment method is to be used, for which patients is this method suitable or not and what are the possible treatments and which of them are used in the Czech Republic. Last but not least, we shortly describe the basic conditions for the exercise of hippotherapy and who may conduct it and the attention is also paid to the Czech hippotherapy chamber and its current status. In the last part we mention the guidelines for selecting horses for hippotherapy and compare these standards and rules with the characteristics and qualities of the hucul horse described earlier. On the basis of this comparison we evaluate the suitability of the hucul horse for the use in hippotherapy.
Comparison of the Motivation and Professional Background the Various Forms of Animal Assisted Activities.
TLAČBABOVÁ, Klára
The aim of my thesis " Comparison of the Motivation and Professional Background of the Various Forms of Animal Assisted Activities" is to determine through literature, opinions of therapists and observation to determine what is the motivation, professional background and time demand to all forms of therapy. The first part focuses on the cross-section of views of the theoretical literature focusing on animal assisted activities. Here I describe the differences between different forms of animal assisted activities and I also deal with ethology of dogs. In the second part I find out through interviews and observations, I find actual evidence from animal assisted activities and I specifically discuss the use of animal assisted activities on the first grade of primary school. At the end of the thesis I summarize insights from observations, processed interviews and also from my own experience and I evaluate usage of animal assisted activities on the first grade of primary school.
Animal assisted activities use in the development of preschool children in the kindergarten
PEKHARTOVÁ, Petra
Bachelor work deals with possibilities of using canistherapy in kindergarten. Bachelor work is divided to two parts. Theoretical part defines terms as animal assisted therapy/activities, canistherapy and gives us overview about child evolution in pre-school age. Children with special educated needs are integrated in kindergartens much more often in time being and canistherapy could be convenient bridge between healthy children and children, who need special educated necessaries. Never less canistherapy has also general positive effects itself. Just the praxis will expose us, if parents and teachers will support this new intervention of therapy with animals.

Possibilities of using animals in zoos in zoorehabilitation.
ŘÍHOVÁ, Žaneta
Although people knew about the therapeutic power of animals from of old, the zoo-rehabilitation is a quite a young field standing at the beginning of its existence. The zoo-rehabilitation can be defined as a summary of activities where is used a therapeutic action of various species to human experience and behaviour. There was retraced and described a physiological, psychological and social positive impact on a human being at a long-term or repeated exposure. A contact with animals can improve overall health, to adjust the psyche and thus to improve the quality of life. A goal of my bachelor thesis was to explore possibilities and ways of using animals in zoos in an area of the zoo-rehabilitation. A partial goal was a specification of species used within the zoo-rehabilitation in programmes of zoos and a screening of the programmes and activities realized in zoos within the zoo-rehabilitation. In the theoretical part at fist I focus my attention on a history of the cohabitation of a man with animals, then on a description of a positive influence on the development and shaping of the personality of children, i.e. a healthy child as well as children with disabilities. Then I clarify terms used in connection with the zoo-rehabilitation. Outputs of the empirical part are results from the qualitative research where I used methods of CAMI, a participant observation, a semi-standardized interview, a secondary data analysis and, as a complementary method, a photo-documentation. The thesis should serve as an appropriate educational and promotional material of the zoo-rehabilitation. Then it should provide a summary overview of possibilities and activities of using animals in zoos in the zoo-rehabilitation area, which is not currently in no way conceptually drawn.
Zoorehabilitation and activities with animals for personality development and preventation of social-patology phenomenons
JONÁKOVÁ, Jana
ABSTRACT The zoorehabilitation is a branch coming into existence only at present despite the fact that people have been aware of beneficial effects of contacts with animals from time immemorial. The idea of using animals for treatment dates back to the 18th century when William Tuke, an English doctor, encouraged the use of animals in mental hospitals. In particular he recommended dogs, goats and hens. He assumed that patients can learn the self-control by talking care of animals that are weaker than them. Moreover, the animals played an important role during the Second World War when they were taken in hospitals to help injured soldiers. By dissipating the soldiers` sombre thoughts they had a positive effect on the soldiers` psyche, increasing thus the soldiers` chances for recovery. The research shows that animals directly influence the man on the biopsychosocial level. People who owned any animals lived for a longer time in comparions with those who had never had any animals at home. Any contact with animals, if perceived by the man positively, calms, slows down the pulse rate and reduces the blood pressure, relieves the tension, facilitates the communication, compensates missing abilities of the man. In the theoretical part of the Bachelor thesis, terms used in zoorehabilitation have been explained and further opportunities of using this rehabilitation technique have been outlined. A special attention has been paid to the identification of opportunities for the use of the zoorehabilitation as a socio-pathological phenomena prevention method. The main aim of the Bachelor thesis is to map out possibilities of zoorehabilitation and activities with animals and outline its further development and use oportunities, especially in the area of prevention. The output of the practical part of the Bachelor thesis is represented by qualitative research results obtained on the basis of document and secondary data analysis methods, involved observations, semi-standardised interviews and the CAMI method. The research has revealed potential ways of using this rehabilitation technique for a personality development and presented it as a nonviolent and effective method within the socio-pathological phenomena prevention.
Animal Assisted Therapy in the Czech Republic in Relation to Professional Background and Dog-Handling Skills of the Therapists
SUDOVÁ, Markéta
In this piece I have attempted to perform descriptive quantitative research in the field of Animal-Assisted Activities and Animal-Assisted Therapies in the Czech Republic. I have placed emphasis on the professional background and dog handling skills of the dog-handler. I tried not only to focus on the impact of dogs on humans, but also to emphasize the importance of the personality of the therapist. I also consider the impact of different personality theories on the personality of the handler/therapist, and the importance of theoretical background and preparation in the given area in which the handler/therapist engages with dogs. Based on the positive respondent reactions, I trust that this research will prove to be of use to people involved in human-animal positive interactions.
