The standard of human resourses and their role in the regional development of the South Moravian Region
Surý, Jan ; Macháček, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Vochozková, Jacqueline (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of human resources in South Moravian Region (SMR). The thesis presents recommendations for changes in regional politics in the area of human resource development, based on the research of selected literature, analysis of current trends and strategic documents in the EU, the Czech Republic and the SMR, analysis and comparison of development potentials of LAU 1 regions in the SMR as well as my own survey. Final recommendations proceed from all of the theoretical and practical information presented in this thesis and suggest following changes: reducing disparities at lower regional level; refinement and optimisation of the overall evaluation process and final monitoring reports of implemented programmes; better support of regions in which lower development potential was detected; stronger promotion of information about the current situation in the labour market, wages and demand for employees in selected fields; simplification of information about the currently implemented operational programmes and promotion of simpler and more understandable forms of communication in order to enhance the activity of micro-enterprises leading to an increase in the total number of applicants for grants under the operational programmes. The advantage of this study compared to studies of a similar nature is the focus on the local market. Despite an above-average concept of human resource development in the SMR in comparison with other NUTS III regions these results allow to further optimise the local policy in this region.

Competitiveness of the EU and the eastern enlargement
Kamenská, Lenka ; Bič, Josef (advisor) ; Pluskalová, Eva (referee)
This bachelor thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter brings different views of a term competitiveness and its measurement. A special attention is paid to the approach of the World Economic Forum to competitiveness. In this chapter, the Lisbon strategy is also mentioned. The Lisbon strategy is a strategic document of the EU, covering the decade 2000-2010, whose aim was to make the EU "the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion". The second chapter describes competitiveness of two members of the eastern enlargement Bulgaria and Estonia, whose position on the competitiveness ranking list is completely different. This chapter points out specific features of these economies, examines factors that contributed most to the growth of competitiveness and identifies competitiveness barriers that prevented a country from achieving better position on the competitiveness ranking list. The final chapter evaluates member states progress towards the Lisbon strategy goals and introduces a new reform agenda called Europe 2020.

The thesis is aimed to describe the contemporary economic condition of the EU and to provide a notion aboat its further development. This depends mostly on efficient ways how the EU will face new challenges. I try to distinguish EU's most serious challenges and introduce the strategies responding to them. I will also offer an appraisal of these strategies and outline its limits.
