A system for 3D localization of gamma sources using Timepix3-based Compton cameras

Compton cameras localize γ-ray sources in 3D space by observing evidence of Compton scattering with detectors sensitive to ionizing radiation. This thesis proposes a software system for operating a novel Compton camera device comprised of Timepix3 detectors and Katherine readouts. To communicate with readouts using UDP-based protocol, a dedicated hardware library was developed. The presented software can successfully control the acquisition of multiple Timepix3 detectors and simultaneously process their measurements in a real-time setting. To recognize instances of Compton scattering among observed interactions, a chain of algorithms is applied with explicit consideration for a possibly high volume of measured information. Unlike alternate approaches, the presented work uses a recently published charge drift time model to improve its spatial resolution. In order to achieve localization of γ-ray sources, the software performs conical back projection into a discretized cuboid volume. Results of randomized evaluation with simulated data indicate that the presented implementation is correct and constitutes a viable method of γ-ray source localization in 3D space. Experimental verification with a prototype model is in progress.
Scintigraphicdetection of the parathyroid tissue in hyperparathyroidism.

The aim of this work is the assessment of the diagnostic accuracy in parathyroid glands (PG) detection by various scintigraphic methods and to propose the optimal examination procedure for successful localization of hyperfunctional PG. The patients were divided into 3 groups with individual types of hyperparathyroidism (HPT): group I. primary PHPT (253 patients), group II. normocalcemic NPHPT (75 patients) and group III. secondary SHPT (61 patients). For all the patients protocol A was performed: one day a two-phase SPECT/CT scan using 99mTc-MIBI (technetium 2-methoxyisobutylisonitrile) depicted simultaneously thyroid gland and PG, and another day thyroid SPECT using 99mTc-NaTcO4 (pertechnetate) for 3D subtraction analysis. In case of 44 patients from group I with negative or unclear results of the protocol A also protocol B was performed: PET/CT using 18F-FCH (fluorocholine). The results of surgery and histology served as a "gold standard" for the assessment of the accuracy of scintigraphic findings. In group I. 209/253 patients had a positive finding on scintigraphy using protocol A and 44 patients with an unclear or negative finding of protocol A underwent protocol B examination. The role of radiologist assistant in radioiodine diagnostics and treatment of thyroid cancer

The bachelors thesis on the task of a radiological assistant during radioiodine diagnostics and treatment of thyroid gland carcinomas deals with the issue of thyroid gland carcinomas in the Czech Republic. It contains a brief overview of the types of carcinomas that affect the thyroid gland, their classification, diagnostics and therapy, concentrating on utilisation of modern examination methods and therapeutic practices, including among others application of radioiodine. The thesis also contains cases of four patients with similar diagnoses, the comparison of the development of whose respective illnesses I found interesting. Last but not least, the thesis includes a number of annexes comprising among others tables with important instructions for patients before and after application of radioiodine, and photographs from the site where the radioiodine application takes place Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Development of Imaging Methods and its Importance to Biomechanics

The main objective of this bachelor thesis is to collect all available literature, from which can reader obtain basic knowledge of imaging methods. The methods are divided by its origin into four categories: x-rays, magnetic resonance, ultrasound and nuclear medicine. Each of them is described from the historical, physics and technological view. At the end the importance of each method to medicine and biomechanics is summarized.
Reliability of the SPECT examination in diagnosis of meniscal lesions of the knee joint

Menisci are located within the knee joint and therefore it is very difficult to diagnose the knee joint meniscus injuries. There are several examination methods, such as RTG, SONO and MRI to diagnose knee joint meniscus injuries. Attention is given to these examination techniques in a section of my thesis. The substantial part of my thesis is focused on the nuclear medicine {--} the ionizing radiation detection, imaging methods {--} but mainly on the non-invasive examination {--} bone scintigraphy and SPECT imaging. The SPECT method is a tomographic version of a common method of planar scintigraphy. The SPECT examination follows the three-phase scintigraphy which is a combination of a static and dynamic scintigraphy. Aother part of my thesis refers to the largely used invasive method, arthroscopy. Arthroscopy is an endoscopic technique enabling visual diagnostics from minimal distance and surgical procedures. The closing part of my thesis brings the comparison of results obtained in patients examined both by the SPECT method and by arthroscopy. The objective of my thesis is to publish the role of the SPECT method in knee joint meniscus injury diagnostics.
