The aim of my bachelor thesis is to evaluate the economic impact caused by the free movement of workers in selected EU countries in specific time definition: 2004-2013. In 2004, the European Union has grown by 10 new members. Older Member States could make use of transitional measures that restrict the free movement of labour for workers from the new Member States. Based on the selected target countries are studied economic impacts resulting from the decision in the form of utilization or non-utilization of these transitional periods.

Prospects of Iceland's membership of the European Union in the context of economic crisis

The thesis deals with the prospects of Iceland's potential membership of the European Union after a deep systemic financial crisis that hit the country in the second half of 2008. Next summer, Icelandic government applied for a first time in history for a membership of the EU. However, Iceland was for a long time known as a country denying any political integration with other European countries, defending its neutrality and restricting its foreign policy to business ties. The thesis has two main goals. The first one is to try to answer the question whether Iceland will actually join the Union or not. The final decision will be in hands of Icelandic citizens because they have to ratify the accession treaty in a national referendum. The second goal is to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of adopting the euro currency for Iceland as this was one of the main arguments of pro-European Icelanders.

Vývoj, současnost a pespektivy Bulharska a jeho postavení v EU

This thesis elaborates the character of Bulgarian Republic development over last years in the view of current situation, which is remarkably influenced by the global financial and economic crisis. The core of this thesis is to map the difficult path for Bulgaria's membership in the European Union, its entry into these structures and the subsequent development during the first 3 years of membership. Finally, I review the present position of Bulgaria in the EU and evaluate the overall benefits for Bulgaria joining the European Union and whether the country was able to complete the necessary reforms and deliver on promises, which it made before the accession to the Union.

Processes of real and nominal convergence in enlarged EU

This bachelor thesis deals with real and nominal convergence in the European Union. Particular attention is devoted to differences in convergence processes between New and Old Member States of the European Union. Beta and sigma convergence is tested at the levels of states, regions NUTS 1 and NUTS 2 during period 1995-2006. The results are put in theoretical background of Solow-Swan model and New Economic Geography. Furthermore, Balass-Samuelson effect and his incidence is presented.

Institucionální reforma EU jako aspekt jejího rozšíření (s ohledem na postavení a zájmy zemí střední a východní Evropy)

Práce popisuje proces institucionální reformy EU od poloviny 90 let minulého století do současnosti. Zaměřuje se na popis a hodnocení všech základních institucí vytvořených na základě Smluv o ES a Smlouvy o EU. Zabývá se všemi souvisejícími změnami těchto Smluv zejména pak Amsterodamskou smlouvou, Smlouvou z Nice a Smlouvami o přistoupení. Práce popisuje dopady těchto smluv na jednotlivé instituce a uvádí komplexní přehled vývoje každé z nich. Dále se práce popisuje proces přistoupení kandidátských zemí střední a východní Evropy. Zabývá se též problematikou Smlouvy o Ústavě pro Evropu, jejím vznikem a změnami, které tatou Smlouva navrhuje.

Turkey and EU - some of the anticipated impacts of the accession

Práce se zabývá identifikací hlavních dopadů, které bude pravděpodobně mít rozšíření Evropské unie o Turecko. Nejprve je krátce popsán vývoj vzájemných vztahů. Následuje rozbor rámce přístupových jednání a jejich aktuálního stavu. Práce obsahuje přehled postoje hlavních aktérů rozšíření na prespektivu tureckého začlenění do EU. Hlavní část práce se věnuje nejdůležitějším dopadům vstupu Turecka na Unii z pohledu ekonomického i politického.
