Application of FTIR methods and the use of chemometry in the field of soil contamination by plastics and microplastics

This final thesis deals with application FTIR method and the use of chemometry in the field of the identification of microplastics in soil. A total of 3 FTIR techniques were used, DRIFT and ATR operating in the mid-infrared region and TANGO technique operating in the near-infrared region. Mixtures of model soil and PET of different concentrations were prepared for analysis. In addition, mixtures of real soil samples and PET of different concentrations were prepared. The obtained data were used for interpretation of the infrared spektra, construction of calibration and correlation dependencies of PET and evaluation of validation models using DRIFT, ATR and TANGO methods.
Preprocessing of ECG signals for detection of significant points

This work aims to find out the best filter design method for getting out parasitic elements in ECG signal. There are defined origin and frequency qualities of these elements. Individua filter design methods are compared according to number of filter coefficients, effectivity and influenc to useful signal. I created several digital filters by various design methods and tested them on ten ECG signals. From the experiment ensued: all filters were able to get out brum, but filters designed by distribution of zeros and poles had the lowest number of coefficients. On the other hand same filters were disable to get out drift with very sheer course.
Problems of plastics and microplastics in FTIR analysis of soils

Microplastics are formed as the result of the fragmentation of plastics. The microparticles are easier to distribute and thus can contaminate the environment. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the research of microplastics present in the soil system, using different methodologies. The focus of this thesis is the analysis of microplastics in soil using infrared spectroscopy – ATR (attenuated total reflectance) and DRIFT (diffuse reflectance) techniques. This work aimed to evaluate the suitability of the method for the identification of microplastics in soils. Polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) and polylactic acid (PLA) were used. In the first part of experimental analysis were microplastics mixed in different concentrations with 3 different types of model soils. The obtained infrared spectra of samples of mixtures (model soil and plastics) were used for statistical evaluation. The second part of the measurement was focused on the monitoring of changes in the spectra of real soils spiked with PET, after exposure to the degradation. After the interpretation of infrared spectra of samples of plastics with real and model soil, it was possible to confirm the presence of the functional groups of each polymer. Based on the measurements, the used techniques were evaluated as inappropriate for the qualitative determination of PLA. The results of the experimental part confirm the accuracy of FTIR (both ATR and DRIFT) for the analysis of microplastics in soil for samples containing PET and PHB.
Breathing Rate Estimation from the Electrocardiogram and Photoplethysmogram

The master thesis deals with the issue of gaining the respiratory rate from ECG and PPG signals, which are not only in clinical practice widely used measurable signals. The theoretical part of the work outlines the issue of obtaining a breath curve from these signals. The practical part of the work is focused on the implementation of five selected methods and their final evaluation and comparison.

The main topic of this bachelor thesis are methods for breathing rate estimations from photopletysmographic signals. In the theoretical part of the thesis we find a biref review of methods that are used for breathing rate estimation. These methods are than tested and their performance is evaluated on two pubilc databases BIDMC and CapnoBase. These databases also contain reference values of respiratory rate.

Electromigration of defects in (CdZn)Te single crystals.

In the present work we study effect of electromigration of defects in CdTe material in external electric field at various temperatures and biases. The aim was to verify this effect using a set of electric contacts arranged linearly along the sample. These contacts as a potential probes was used for the detection of the drift of the local resistance modulation. We try to determine under what conditions and why it happens and then decide how this effect can be used for purification of semi-conducting samples and for preparation of semi-insulating material.

Breathing Rate Estimation from the ECG and PPG Signals

This bachelor’s thesis is focused on breath rate estimation. In this thesis, methods of breath rate estimation from the ECG and PPG signal are described and implemented. In the first two chapters the basics of ECG measurements are described, as well as the measurements of the respiratory system activity and the PPG signal. The third chapter then describes the ECG/PPG-derived respiratory signal estimation methods, later on the breath rate determination. In the fourth chapter, chosen methods are implemented and the created algorithms are applied on real data from the BIDMC database.
