Comparison of reading skills in English by pupils with and without learning disabilities

This bachelor thesis deals with differences in reading in English by pupils with and without dyslexia. It focuses on speed, error rate and error quality in the reading process. The aim of this work is to compare speed and error rate in English reading by dyslectic and comparative group and to find links between them by use of quantitative methods. Further, the work is concerned with types of errors made by dyslectics when reading; these are examined using qualitative methods. In the first part of the work is described theoretical basis of learning disabilities as well as the influence of dyslexia on English language acquisition. Moreover, possible ways of re-education of dyslexia in English language learning are suggested there. In the practical part of the work are used reading tests for English and Czech language to find out speed and error rate, which are afterwards compared by dyslectic and comparative group. Thesis results are usable for pedagogical-psychological diagnostics the same as for English teaching by pupils with dyslexia.
The influence of teaching English in pre-school education on the success of learners in English language teaching in elementary schools.

The topic of this thesis is the effect of preschool English education on the success of children in English language at primary school. The theoretical part provides a picture of the language policy of the Czech Republic and presents the curricula of the Czech Republic. It presents the views of experts on the issue of preschool English education and identifies key factors, such as the age of the children, the continuity of the education, and professional and qualified management, which have an impact on the early learning of a foreign language. It defines the preschool period and presents suitable methods and forms for foreign language education at the pre-primary age. The practical part focuses on the opinions and experiences with learning a foreign language in preschool from the point of view of primary school English teachers, children who have had experience with a foreign language in pre-primary education, and the parents of these children.
Exploiting pupils' multiple intelligences in the process of teaching English vocabulary

The diploma thesis is devoted to exploiting pupils' multiple intelligences in the process of learning English vocabulary. The theoretical part deals with the theory of vocabulary acquisition and the description of Howard Gardner´s multiple intelligences. The practical part deals with the application of these theories into lessons where activities connected with multiple intelligences will be used for new vocabulary teaching. The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out which types of intelligences will be the most effective during the process of vocabulary acquisition. This will be discovered by the test of vocabulary focused on vocabulary taught during lessons.
Using Internet Servers in English Language Teaching.

This dissertation is focused on the possibilities of using the Internet, especially Internet servers that are focused on English learning, teaching and also practice for lower secondary school learners. One of the aims was to find such servers, to compare and assess them, not only from the didactic point of view. Other aspects have been studied - functionality, orientation in the structure of the internet servers. The text and content of the web pages were also taken into consideration. Another criterion is the utilization of these internet servers by teachers and learners. The aim of this dissertation is to give advice to teachers and learners which servers are appropriate to English teching and learning. The practical part includes a survey based on questionnaires among lower secondary school learners. Its aim is to find out whether they already know and use such servers.
A Play as Part of Foreign Language Learning

My diploma thesis describes the possibilities of using drama education in English language teaching at the secondary school. The theoretical part shows how English teaching can be connected with drama education. Furthermore, it presents concrete methods and techniques which can be used in any English lesson and it describes the basic principles of play rehearsal in schools. The practical part presents the author?s original theatre script in English for secondary school students and it also contains a reflection of the process of staging a theatre performance according to the script, done with a group of pupils from the Kubatova secondary school in České Budějovice.
Interactive Czech-English Educational Programme for Teaching Regional Geography of America (US Countries) in the 2nd Grade of the Basic School

The diploma thesis consists of two basic parts. In the first part the professional and popular scientific literature are analysed. Also geographical textbooks, English textbooks, magazines and other sources connected to the thesis theme are analysed. The second part of the thesis contents author´s own created proposal of the educational programme for the US countries. The educational programme puts the emphasis on the relationship between the school subjects of geography and English. It is created in the programme Smart Notebook 10 used for interactive whiteboards Smart Board, which can activate students in the lesson. The educational programme is completed with the user´s manual which describes how to work with the programme in detail and contents the results of the added worksheets.

This diploma thesis deals with teaching a foreign language in Class One at primary school. The theoretical part deals with questions and polemic regarding the acquisition of a foreign language at an early age and examines the advantages and disadvantages of language learning at an early age. Compares the views of experts on this issue and describes the conditions for effective teaching of children. It focuses on the basic methodology for teaching foreign language to small children. It speaks about adequate forms of work at an early age and describes how the language skills can or cannot be developed. The practical part describes and compares the teaching of English language in Class One at a state school and an alternative school based on observation, my own teaching and discourses with teachers.

My diploma thesis deals with using learning strategies when learning the English language. To research the learning strategies of students I will carry out a case study in one particular class of lower level of an eight ? year grammar school. The theoretical part is focused on the evaluation of the current knowledge and description and characterization of particular learning strategies. It stresses the importance of learning strategies in the context of the contemporary educational system. I also refer to the role of teachers and students with regard to using learning strategies. The practical part of the diploma thesis deals with the determination of measures in which the students of one particular class use learning strategies. To find out about learning strategies of the students I will use an existing questionnaire called Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) for my case study. On the basis of the gained data I will determine the measure of using learning strategies of particular students and the whole group. After that I will suggest a set of exercises which support mainly the development and use of the direct learning strategies.
Využití dramatických technik k rozvoji sociolingvistické kompetence/Developing Sociolinguistic Competence through Drama Techniques

The main goal of the thesis is to show the possibilities of using drama education in English lessons with concentration on developing sociolinguistic competence. The thesis comprises of two parts ? theoretical and practical. The theoretical is divided into three chapters. The first deals with the sociolinguistic competence and its conception in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and in the Framework Educational Programme, the second is devoted to drama education and drama techniques and methods and the third briefly deals with teaching foreign languages in the two above mentioned curriculum documents. The practical part includes the three lesson plans which mainly concentrate on developing the sociolinguistic competence of students at middle school level and it also includes reflection of the lessons. The practical part is based on the theoretical knowledge from the theoretical part and can serve as a source of inspiration or manual for teachers who are interested in developing not only communicative but also social and personal competence.
Media Education in English Language Classes

This diploma thesis focuses on Media Education in English language classes. The first section introduces media in general and deals with media education and its place in Framework Educational Programme for grammar schools. Next part monitors the ways of using media education in other school subjects and describes methodology itself. On the basis of this knowledge some of the methodological books are analysed. The last part of the first section introduces advertisements and their main characteristics. The second section presents a project of media education which is called Advertisement and Slogan. The project was prepared to be used in three English lessons. The structure, aims and methods of each of them as well as lesson plans and the process of each lesson are described in detail. The final part is devoted to students? and teacher?s evaluations.
