Špíglová, Aneta ; SÍLOVÁ, Zuzana (advisor) ; TICHÝ, Zdeněk (referee)
The subject of this diploma thesis is a theater and film production of Ladislav Smoljak. The thesis aims to discover consistent elements in his extensive work and define the poetics of the artist. The attention is focused primarily on his humor. Next goal is to define Smoljak's creative approach in relation to Zdeněk Svěrák; his long-time work partner. His work is mainly examined by textual analysis and analysis of the final productions. Theatrical productions: Vyšetřování ztráty třídní knihy made for Divadlo Járy Cimrmana, Hymna aneb Urfidlovačka, Fantom realistického divadla Zdeňka Nejedlého for Studio Jára (later renamed Studio Láďa) and Malý říjen for Divadlo Na Zábradlí. Movies: Jáchyme, hoď ho do stroje!; Marečku, podejte mi pero!; Na samotě u lesa; Kulový blesk; Vrchní, prchni!; Jára Cimrman ležící, spící; Rozpuštěný a vypuštěný and Nejistá sezóna. The author of the thesis used the findings in order to define Smoljak's understanding of humor as the way how to communicate about issues related to the very nature of humanity.
Influence of gender on the evaluation of anecdotes
Prchlíková, Klára
Linguists have focused on humor and its typical genre, anecdotes, for a relatively long period of time. Czech linguistics analyzed mainly formal aspects of anecdotes, especially linguistic means (Bečka, 1946; Komárek, 1992). But anecdotes are not only text, they have also their place in communication. Abroad therefore much research was conducted on the evaluation of anecdotes, while special attention was repeatedly taken into account the effect of gender on this evaluation. One of the recent research was conducted in the USA by Abel and Flick (2012). The results of their research showed that women and men evaluated sexist anecdotes differently: both women and men deemed as funnier jokes directed towards the opposite sex. To compare the results of this research with my own research conducted on Czech speakers, I created two versions of the questionnaire, which contained 24 anecdots of different kinds (basis of humor: verbal, situational, absurd jokes; overall impression: positive, negative jokes; form: conversational jokes, riddles etc.). These anecdotes were evaluated on a scale not funny – very funny. It turned out that both women and men deem as funnier anecdotes directed towards the opposite sex, which corresponds to the results from Abel and Flick (2012). The questionnaire survey also showed that men compared to women assessed as funnier vulgar jokes and anecdotes from the field of black humor.
The reception of the Manuscripts in satire and humour
Hemelíková, Blanka
Czech manuscripts were importantly reflected in humour and satire, the key issues being the cult and myth connected with the manuscripts and controversies in the battles for or against authenticity of the manuscripts. The local echoes of the mainstream of European Ossianism is brought to mind, too.
MEANINGFULNESS VS. AMUSINGNESS
Lesák, Jan ; BORNA, Jan (advisor) ; TICHÝ, Zdeněk (referee)
The aim of the thesis is a reflection of two of my theatre productions, How to Run a Marathon and The Chameleon, in terms of their meaningfulness and amusingness. The work on both productions led me to believe that the higher amount of meaning a stage project carries, the less it is amusing. Having however seen many productions which I consider highly meaningful and amusing at the same time, I decided to explore the original notion in order to discover the actual relation between meaningfulness and amusingness. The thesis therefore defines my notion of amusingness and my notion of meaningfulness. An analysis of those notions leads to the conclusion that I find amusingness without meaning unamusing, and a meaning that is not delivered in an amusing manner I consider uncommunicable. Therefore: not only are meaningfulness and amusingness not in opposition, they even can hardly exist one without the other. My biggest mistake in the creation of the stage productions was therefore separating those two aspects. In my further stage direction practice I would like to work with meaningfulness and amusingness together in such a manner that they both mutually support each other and organically come out of one another.

FABIÁNOVÁ, Nikol
The bachelor thesis deals with a literary topic of the main characters in H. H. Munro?s short stories. His workings are well known for their humour but many of them have almost macabre background. To uncover the author?s reasons for such attitude, there were chosen eight of his more or less known short stories to be analysed. The determining of Munro?s perspective of social criticism was interesting especially because of the historical background. He wrote his best pieces of work at the turn of the 19th and 20th century which was the end of one of the most famous and successful era of the Great Britain. Munro?s own burning life situation is reflected in his work as well.
