Children's lifestyle in Kid's Centre of Southern Region
ŠIMEČKOVÁ, Irena
Growing up in a loving family is important for every child. Where the family is for any reason unable to provide the necessary background, the child is placed into substitute care, either in a family setting or an institution. The state prefers surrogate family to institutional care. The beginning of the theoretical part of my thesis focuses on the child?s rights contained in the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Basic Freedoms, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and under Act 359/1999 Sb. on social and legal protection of children. I?ve described types of substitute care ? in a family setting (foster care, temporary foster care, adoption, committing the child into the care of a person other than his parent, guardianship) and in an institution ? and gave an account of the sequelae of childhood institutionalisation. I explained how the CAN syndrome manifests itself and what kind of children fall most frequently victims to abuse. I explained the importance of a family for a child and what does family recovery mean, what are the needs of children, and the ethnic group. The theoretical part concludes with a description of the South Bohemian Child Centre. The Child Centre is situated in the town of Strakonice. It?s a non-governmental health-care facility that can accommodate a maximum of 25 children. The South Bohemian Child Centre was established in 2005. Under Act 359/1999 Sb. on the social and legal protection of children, as amended, the Centre runs a facility accommodating children who require immediate help. The facility is primarily intended for 6-year-olds and younger; upon agreement, an older child may be admitted as well, in particular if he or she is a sibling. The help provided to children by the facility includes healthcare and social, legal, educational and psychological care and counselling. Under Act 108/2006 Sb. on social services, the Centre runs social rehabilitation intended for mothers and family members in need of help to be able to manage caring for their child, and also for future adoptive and foster parents. Parents have 5 dwelling units at their disposal. I divided the research into two parts. The first objective was mapping the life situation of children in the South Bohemian Child Centre between 2009-2011. The second objective was to establish how the social rehabilitation scheme has been utilised since the South Bohemian Child Centre was established. In order to achieve these objectives, a quantitative research had been designed, with secondary and content data analysis. I followed 9 criteria in the first research group: 1. reasons of admission to the CC, 2. age at the time of admission to the CC, 3. age at the time of leaving the CC, 4. the average length of the child?s stay in the facility, 5. ethnic group, 6. their state of health, 7. their mental state, 8.contact with their biological family, 9. reasons of termination of their stay. In the second research group dealing with social rehabilitation where parents stay with their children, I followed 4 criteria: 1. reason of admission into the social rehabilitation scheme, 2. the parent, 3. length of stay in the facility, 4. success. The results of this thesis will serve for the purposes of the South Bohemian Child Centre and be of use to anyone interested in these issues.

Sources of identity creation of adopted children
KLOUDOVÁ, Hana
Regarding the legal act adoption is the highest and the most advantage type of substituted care for a child, as the legal status of an adopted child is the same as of tan own child. Currently children are informed about adoption from a very young age. Applicants for adoption are trained in access courses about the way how to explain the whole situation to an adopted child. The aim of my thesis is to find out what importance adopted children put to the adoption itself and how this fact of adoption influences their identity. What roles play other people around them who know that the child is adopted? I used for my research fact-finding strategy- The method which I obtained data were from semi-structured interviews with adults once adopted as children conducted face to face or by e-mail.the next source of information was internet debate. The research was done on five adopted adults who were adopted as children ranging from 20 to 40 years old including myself. I gained respondents through a method called snowball. Through the biographic research method I worked out the data which means to reconstruction and interpretation of human?s life by somebody else and qualitative conceptual analysis of replies. The result of this is introduced as a biography of adopted children and also as a conclusion of answers in this research. In finalizing of the result comes the fundamental discovery that the effect on identity of adopted children has the foundation of a loving family. I found out that adoption itself did not mean anything noticeable at respondents or the impact of other people around them. The main thing which matters is a functional family, which they have.

Comparison of nursing care about apallic patients in domestic and institutional care from carer?s viewpoint
SOUSEDÍKOVÁ, Zuzana
As a result of urgent medicine acceleration and neurosurgery care improvement individuals that had minimum chance of life saving in the past survive brain insults. Increasing occurrence of people with apallic syndrome is a consequence of this progress. This thesis compares domestic and institutional care of apallic people. It examines whether the care quality and complexity are comparable. As the domestic care is more economical for the government it has to be supported in the times of insufficient funds for health care. Quantitative research technique of non-standardized interview was used for data collection. The research sample consisted of six healthcare workers and six family members caring for apallic patients. One respondent had a son in institutional care, however she took him temporarily to domestic care. Questions for healthcare staff and for caring family members were prepared separately. The results show that apallic patients in domestic care achieve substantially better results. The physical load is comparable, mental load is higher for family members. The basal stimulation, which is extremely important for apallic patients, is purposefully applied in institutional care only, as it is provided by trained staff there. The results of this work were presented at the 4th National Student Conference organized by the Faculty of Healthcare Studies of the Pardubice University. The data are published in the proceedings: SOUSEDÍKOVÁ, Zuzana. Comparison of nursing care about apallic patients in domestic and institutional care. In VI. National Student Scientific Conference of Bachelor and Master Programmes General Nurse, Midwife, Healthcare Rescuer, Nursing. Pardubice: Pardubice University, 2011. p. 18. ISBN 978-80-7395-391-1. The thesis will also be provided to the Cerebrum Association, which is going to publish it on its website and provide it to its clients, who are in touch with patients after brain injury. Distribution of this work among people having individuals with insulted brain around is the best way how to highlight the urgency of the problem.
