Neurotic symptoms of university students
KRÚPOVÁ, Lucie
This Bachelor{\crq}s thesis deals with the occurrence of neurotic symptoms in university students in relation to the form of study. The theoretical part outlines the actual field of neurotic symptoms. Its introductory chapters are based on the definition of the term ``neurotic,`` which is ``related to or resulting from neurosis.{\crqq} Individual neurotic and stress-related disorders are described here according to the MKN {--} 10 classification, i.e. phobic anxiety disorders, including agoraphobia, social phobia and specific (isolated) phobias, as well as other anxiety disorders, which include panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. Apart from phobic anxiety disorders this thesis also deals with obsessive-compulsive disorders, reactions to severe stress and adjustment disorders (acute reaction to stress and post-traumatic stress-related disorder). Another crucial chapter of the thesis is the chapter on stress. In this part I tried to describe the problems of stress in relation to the main topic of the thesis {--} neurotic symptoms. Here I deal mainly with the physiology and manifestations of stress. Because neurotic disorders are examples of a connection between the physical and the mental, the last part is focused on psychosomatics. Psychosomatics is described here as a science and somatoform disorders are also described according to MKN {--} 10. The conclusion to the theoretical part of the thesis, which is aimed at particular neurotic symptoms, is divided into two parts, the first one being neurotic symptoms manifested by a mental scheme and the second one neurotic symptoms manifested by a physical scheme. The practical part is focused on mapping neurotic symptoms in university students within a quantitative research according to my own questionnaire.
Clinic and physiotherapy at overloaden nuchal muscles
KOLIBÍKOVÁ, Eliška
Abstract My thesis is focused on physiotherapy of overstrained neck musculature. This issue is familiar to me also due to the fact that it relates to me personally from the health point of view. I have selected three patients with whom I worked for this research. I have been monitoring the first patient for three months, and two other patients for six visits. The cervical spine is the most mobile and most strained spinal part. The problem of overstrained neck musculature is often highly underestimated; there are rare prevention programs focused on cervical musculature available, and it is not known how to prevent it. The goal of my thesis is to approach and describe the issue of overstrained neck musculature, as well as to use these findings in real life. To discover some causes of these problems. The last goal is to measure, based on the examinations and follow-up therapy in randomly selected patients, the effect of overstrained neck musculature therapy, through the patient{\crq}s individual feedback and the objective evaluation of the physiotherapist{\crq}s examination. To achieve my goals, I have used a qualitative research approach. Patient cooperation played an important role in therapies {--} two of the patients have cooperated very well, our targets have been achieved together, but the third patient did not cooperate with home exercising, she made just therapeutic visits where only partial success has been achieved in treatment. She left the study in a stabilized condition, but it is disputable, how long she will stay pain-free. I used kinesiological analysis in examinations {--} at first the patient{\crq}s history was collected, and then the patient was visually examined {--} from the front, back and side; through palpitation {--} examination of active movements of the cervical spine in the sitting position and thereafter during passive movements. Examination of cervicothoracic transition and thoracic spine. The following techniques have been used: soft techniques, rib mobilisation by Mojžíšová, Čápová's exercises, post isometric relaxation of muscles and its modifications {--} anti-gravitation relaxation, facilitation {--} ball massages, manipulation + physical therapy. I have prepared both short- and long-term rehabilitation plans for all patients. Besides that, I mentioned examples of methods primarily focused on movement education and correct body posture. Results of my thesis can be used by both the unprofessional (as an information source) and professional public.
Coping with nurses´stress
PAPEŽOVÁ, Marta
The present bachalor{\crq}s thesis focuses on mental stress management among nurses working in departments of surgery and internal medicine. Today, when the health care has become more and more demanding in terms of professional expertise and social skills, this issue cannot be omitted. The thesis tries to observe the methods used by nurses in order to cope with mental stress while performing their job, it analyzes how such stress may influence the health care given, and lastly it tries to find out what the nurses are missing so that they can manage the mental stress. The survey was carried out by way of quantitative method. The data were collected from questionnaires. The survey focused on the target groups of nurses in the surgery departments in hospitals in Havlíčkův Brod, Jihlava, and Pelhřimov, and in the department of internal medicine in the same hospitals. First, there were defined three hypotheses. The survey outcome showed that the nurses in question give preference to using effective strategies in order to manage stressful situations than using inefficient and ineffective ones. They often make an effort to analyze the situation rationally and if needed, they ask for help, which proves correct the first hypothesis: Nurses try to analyze the situation objectively and solve the problem effectively. Most nurses are sure that the mental stress often influences the quality of the health care provided, that it has a negative impact on the relations with patients and communication between them and health care staff. The survey also found out that nurses who are mentally stressed out make mistakes. This proves the second hypothesis: Mental stress has a negative impact on the health care provided by nurses. The third hypothesis presumed that a lack of health care staff is the main cause for mental stress among nurses. This hypothesis has not been confirmed. The conclusion found out that all nurses lack auxiliary staff, qualified nurses, and quality personal background; some nurses also lack technical equipment, interest shown by management in their mental health, and enough relaxation because of time stress. Alarming number of nurses stated they increasingly do not find their work meaningful which leads to long-term feelings of exhaustion. A few nurses added that such situation makes them feel negative towards co-workers and clients which might be related to burnout syndrome. The outcome of the survey shall be handed to nurses in the departments of surgery and internal medicine in all hospitals to provoke more thoughts and also to the managements for further feedback and possible improvements in working conditions so that the nurses are healthier and the quality of health care better.
Stress impact on learning in rodents {--} ethological & fysiological approach
HAVLOVÁ, Jitka
The review compares two methodological approaches of studying stress impact on learning in rodents. Particular forms of stress that can harm or facilitace memory and learning process are distinguished. Permanent exposure to hormone treatments results in space memory damage, whereas short-term exposure enforces the learning processes. Ethological methods have predominantly a negative effect on learning, particularly on space learning and reference memory. On the contrary, some methods can facilitate learning process. Variable outputs are received when applying short-term and long-term stress
Psychohygiene of social workers
VORÁČKOVÁ, Pavla
Social work is supposed to be a highly demanding job. Psychohygiene is a set of rules which helps keep, improve and recovery the psychic balance and health. This thesis has been aimed at mental health tools used by social workers of the Strakonice region. The research was conducted by the qualitative method of a questionnaire and an interpretation. The following hypotheses were suggested: Social work is so demanding as the workers deal with people. Stress mostly results from time pressure. Psychohygiene depends on the individuals. The social workers exploit mental health tools. Supervision is provided in some organisations. The social workers are mostly satisfied with their lives.
Options of managing the stress situations during mass accidents
ŠEVČÍK, Radek
All of us face stress every day. The manner we are able to handle stress affects our behaviour, health and success in completing the tasks brought to us by our lives. The level of stress is immense in the mass accidents and the demands to handle such stress high. Therefore, it is beneficial to have certain awareness about the impact of stress; to know how stress affects us, what it make provoke in us and to know, as well, how to manage it efficiently. This kind of stress awareness should be very high mainly in the case of people who intervene at the very place of an accident tragedy. My bachelor thesis was prepared in the quantitative manner using questionnaires. The research sample was formed by selected employees of the accident flying squads of Salvage and Rescue Service (``SRS{\crqq}) of the South-Bohemian and South-Moravian regions. The main aim of my thesis was to determine whether there is a targeted preparation of the SRS employees for stress situations. I have set two hypotheses in respect of the research. Hypothesis No. 1, ``Employees of accident flying squads of the SRS practicing for more than 5 years are more informed on the stress issues during mass accidents{\crqq}, was confirmed. Hypothesis No. 2, ``Employees of accident flying squads of the SRS were trained specifically for stress situations during the mass accidents{\crqq}, was not confirmed. In my research, I found that 61.5% of the employees questioned did not pass any specific training for stress resistance. My bachelor thesis should serve as an impulse for the creation of a specific training for the employees of accident flying squads of the SRS and also as a potential ground to enhance the training in the given field within the study program of ``Health Rescuer{\crqq}.
The influence of stress in dialyzed patients of the level and role the nurse in this issue
JANOUŠKOVÁ, Jaroslava
Stress and stressful situations influence us throughout our whole lives. Great and longterm stress can cause many health complications. Dialysis alone is a great stress in dialyzed patients. To every day stress causing agents a number of restrictions is added in connection with dialysis. Especially the change of lifestyle has an impact on private life and the life of the whole family. Dialyzed patients suffer from an increased level of stress permanently. The nurse plays in important role in these situations as she gets in close contact with the patient. She can by means of communication and her attitude influence the process of treatment and the quality of the patient's life. The main goal of the research survey was to determine the influence of stress in dialyzed patients, what role the nurse plays in this issue, the importance of her attitude to dialyzed patients and whether the stress has also an impact on nurses. Qualitative research method was applied. Non-standardized interview with randomly chosen patients and nurses from the same hemodialysis center. The interviews were prepared in case reports. The research has shown that dialysis is a stress for patients and it influences to a certain degree their private lives as it has become an indispensable part of their lives for a long time. The quality of life of dialyzed patients is influenced not only by the process of treatment but also the family background and the attitude of nurses. A nurse is considered by most patients indispensable. The nurses are, according to patients, compliant, emphatic and sensitive. The research has further shown that nurses working with these patients are also influenced by their stress. Patients tend to pass their problems they do not what to deal with on their own on nurses and they expect help, which is an enormous stress on nurses as they realize dialysis is for these patients a lifelong issue. In order to provide quality care for dialyzed patients, it is necessary nurses stay emotionally uninvolved and still maintain a good feeling from a well done work. A self-possessed nurse can help a patient more that a workplace with top equipment and the best experts.
Influence of stress upon the quality of the provided nursing care at the emergency ambulances.
JAMBOROVÁ, Lenka
I have selected the topic of my bachelor thesis ``The effect of stress on quality of nursing care provided by nurses in acute care facilities`` as I have been always interested in work of nurses in acute care facilities and in mental demands imposed on nurses as a result of such work. Stress is a set of responses by the organism to internal and external impulses, which disturb regular functioning of the organism; stress is an individual response to excessive physical, emotional or intellectual requirements . Communication is viewed as a significant aspect in healthcare. It is a fundamental and integral part of healthcare provided by nurses. Effective communication favorably contributes to recovery of patients as it alleviates fear and confusion and helps to mitigate anxiety and stress. Although we sometime fail to realize that, we assess patients immediately after they arrival to the surgery. We notice whether the patient communicates, whether he/she is nervous, whether his/her appearance is neat and we can see that the patient is in a wheelchair or on crotches. The current nursing standards require a nurse to be a recognized expert in her independent sphere of action. The burnout syndrome is described as a condition of mental and physical exhaustion, most frequently observed in the so-called helping professions. In Czech literature the burnout syndrome has been most frequently mentioned in connection with persons in nursing professions, where the work consists of serving to other people. In the research for my bachelor thesis I have used a qualitative survey using inquiry with a questionnaire. The questionnaire was developed for nurses working in acute care facilities. The survey was conducted in hospitals in České Budějovice, Jindřichův Hradec, Prague Motol, in a psychiatric institution in Jihlava and outpatient clinic in Telč, always subject to approvals granted by the respective head nurses. This thesis sought to find out whether the stress influences the quality of nursing care provided by nurses in acute care facilities. All the three hypotheses - number 1: Stress affects quality of the provided nursing care; number 2: Stress affects health condition of nurses in acute care facilities; and number 3: Good team at the workplace favorably influences work in acute care facilities - have been confirmed . This means that the objective of the work has been achieved. My thesis may be used as a supporting source material for education of medical personnel in hospital practice.
Demans put on nurses work when providing nursing care on hemodialysis department.
KADLEČKOVÁ, Aneta
Abstrakt In our Bachelor Diploma Work we dealt with the problems of the difficult of the work of nurses in the department of haemodialysis. We have chosen this topic because of the growing higher demands made on the nurses. It can be said that the profession of a nurse is very demanding, they are even jeopardized both by the psychological and physical influences. Because of that there are several advices the nurses should know and observe them. The professional literature encourages the nurses in the department of haemodialysis to find at lest a short moment to learn how to rest and to relax. Unfortunately it is not like that in reality. In the theoretical part we focused on the haemodialysis characteristics, on its indications, contra-indications, on the nursing care in this department and naturally on the psychological and physical impacts on the nurses in the department of haemodialysis. For the research investigation I used a semi-structured discussion. It contained 21 questions, the nurses had to answer. The data collection took place during March 2009. The total numer of enquired nurses was 16. The topic was based on the three targets. To find out what demands have been made on the treatment care for the patiens in the department of haemodialysis, to find out, what impact the care has on nurses in the department of haemodialysis and to find out whether the nurses in the department of haemodialysis suffer from the burn-out syndrome. Based on my Bachelor Diploma Work we would like to organize a seminary for the nurses, working in the department of haemodialysis, focused on the burn-out syndrome and correct relaxation.
