Implementation of LTE Cat-M Technology for Smart Measurement Scenarios
Tamentsev, Viacheslav
The requirements introduced in Directive 2019/944 of the European Parliament for smart metering scenarios, which differ from the ones defined in ITU-R M.2410, accelerated the integration of cellular technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT). With the release of cellular IoT (CIoT) technologies in the Czech Republic, recently LTE Cat-M, the focus shifts towards evaluating the performance in massive scenarios where thousands of devices are connected to one base station. This paper examines the feasibility of implementing LTE Cat-M communication technology in Network Simulator 3 (NS-3) to cover massive Machine-Type Communication (mMTC). The paper analyzes the capabilities of cellular modules within the selected simulation tool Networks Simulator 3 (NS-3), including the LENA module. First, simulation scenarios are created to validate and benchmark the performance of legacy LTE/LTE-A networks with attention to (mMTC) scenarios. The key output is the determination that the 4G networks are unsuitable for these scenarios. Further, based on the obtained data, the initial discussion on the requested implementation to support the LTE Cat-M in the NS-3 is provided, pointing out the exact changes associated with the physical layer.

The Diploma work examines the feasibility of implementing Long-Term Evolution for Machine-Type Communications (LTE Cat-M) communication technology in Network Simulator-3 (NS-3) to provide massive Machine-Type Communication (mMTC). The paper analyzes the capabilities of cellular communication modules in the selected NS-3 simulation tool, including the LTE/EPC Network Simulator (LENA) module. In the theoretical part, it considers Low-Power Wide Area (LPWA) global networking technologies and their applications, including key aspects of the IoT Internet and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications. Special attention is given to analyzing the most common technologies in LPWA networks, such as Sigfox, Low-Power Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN), Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) and Long Term Evolution for Machines (LTE Cat-M). In the practical part, simulation scenarios are created to testing and comparing the performance of legacy LTE/LTE-A networks with focus on mMTC scenarios. The result is the determination that 4G networks are not suitable for these scenarios. Therefore, for such scenarios, the LTE/EPC Network Simulato Narrowband (LENA-NB) module is being used for modifications to the LENA module to meet LTE Cat-M requirements.

Rehberger, Marek ; Mašek, Pavel (referee) ; Juráň, Radovan (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals in its theoretical part with LPWA communication technologies in the licensed frequency spectrum, specific technologies LTE Cat-M1 and NB-IoT. The theoretical part summarizes the terms concerning to LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network), licensed and unlicensed technologies, SmartGrids, NB-IoT and LTE Cat-M1. The use of LPWA technologies in the field of SmartGrids is described and the idea of Smart Metering in buildings is used in the work. Subsequently, in the practical part for the LTE Cat-M1 technology, the implementation of communication scenarios for data transmission within SmartGrids is performed using the tools Network Simulator 3 (NS-3) and the LENA module. The results of the simulations are clearly processed in the form of graphs and tables.

Sítě LPWA (Low-Power Wide-Area) je možné v dnešní době realizovat bezdrátovými komunikačními technologiemi NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT), Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) a Sigfox.

The diploma thesis deals with LTE Cat-M communication technologies and its implementation in the NS-3 simulation tool using the 5G-LENA NR module. The theoretical part describes LPWA technologies available in the Czech Republic. It also focuses on the LTE-M standard and especially LTE Cat-M1, which are described in more detail. The practical part describes the possibilities of LTE Cat-M1 simulation using simulation scenarios available for the older version of NS-3, and also some modifications to the current version of NS-3 and the 5G-LENA NR module are designed and implemented.
Implementation of Communication Technology LTE Cat-M1 Utilizing the Network Simulator 3
Drápela, Roman ; Jeřábek, Jan (referee) ; Mašek, Pavel (advisor)
Diploma thesis deals with the implementation of LTE Cat-M1 technology in simulator NS--3 (Network Simulator 3). The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes key terms concerning IoT (Internet of Things), M2M (Machine-to-Machine) communication, LTE (Long Term Evolution) and LPWA (Low-Power Wide Area) networks. The practical part summarizes the possibilities of currently available modules for cellular technologies for NS-3, ie. the LENA module and the subsequent extension of LENA+ and ELENA. Simulation scenarios offer a comparison of LTE/LTE-A and LTE Cat-M1 (also known as eMTC - enhanced Machine Type Communication) technologies for M2M communication. The results of the simulations are well-arranged in the form of graphs and discussed at the end of the thesis.

Maslák, Roman ; Možný, Radek (referee) ; Mašek, Pavel (advisor)
The Diploma work deals with the implementation of LTE Cat-M technology in the simulation tool Network Simulator 3 (NS-3). The work describe LPWA technologies and their use cases. In first are described the main parts of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication. Subsequently are described and defined the most used technologies in LPWA networks. Technologies which are used in the LPWA networks are Sigfox, LoRaWAN, Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) and Long Term Evolution for Machines (LTE Cat-M), where LTE Cat-M technology is described in more details. Simulations are simulated in simulation tool NS-3 and use LENA module. In NS 3 tool are simulated Simulations, which give us informations of Network state according to different Network set up. At the end are done changes of Radio Resource Control (RRC) states in NS-3 tool. These changes are required for correct implementation LTE Cat-M technology in NS-3 tool. Then we are able to simulate simulations, which meet to definition of LTE Cat-M technology.

Diplomová práce se zabývá komunikační technologií Long Term Evolution Machine Type Communication (LTE-M) a její implementací v simulačním nástroji Network Simulator 3 (NS-3).
