Legal Manuscripts in Parish St. James’s Library in Brno
Petr, Stanislav
Valuable collection of 122 medieval manuscripts has been preserved in the parish library at the St. James's Church in Brno, dating from the end of 13th century to the beginning of the 16th century, together with 141 incunabula. Apart from liturgical, homiletic, patristic codices, biblical commentaries and other theological and philosophical texts, there are also a few juridical manuscripts, mainly canonical-legal. Since 1931, the library has been deposited in the Archives of the City of Brno; however, it has not yet been made accessible by a proper and modern register. In the past, a large number of liturgical manuscripts were used by historians and musicologists, especially during several exhibitions of gothic art and Moravian book painting.
