Spectral/hp elements in fluid structure interaction.
Pech, Jan
This work presents simulations of incompressible fluid flow interacting with a moving rigid body. A numerical algorithm for incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a general coordinate system is applied to two types of body motion, prescribed and flow-induced. Discretization in spatial coordinates is based on the spectral/hp element method. Specific techniques of stabilisation, mesh design and approximation quality estimates are described and compared. Presented data show performance of the solver for various geometries in 2D from slowly moving cylinder to high speed flow around aerodynamic profiles.
Numerical solution of a stochastic model of a ball-type vibration absorber
Fischer, Cyril ; Náprstek, Jiří
The mathematical model of a ball-type vibration absorber represents a non-linear differential system which includes non-holonomic constraints. When a random ambient excitation is taken into account, the system has to be treated as a stochastic deferential equation. Depending on the level of simplifcation, an analytical solution is not practicable and numerical solution procedures have to be applied. The contribution presents a simple stochastic analysis of a particular resonance effect which can negatively influence efficiency of the absorber.
RTIN-based strategies for local mesh refinement
Kolcun, Alexej ; Sysala, Stanislav
Longest-edge bisection algorithms are often used for local mesh refinements within the finite element method in 2D. In this paper, we discuss and describe their conforming variant. A particular attention is devoted to the so-called Right-Triangulated Irregular Network (RTIN) based on isosceles right triangles and its tranformation to more general domains. We suggest to combine RTIN with a balanced quadrant tree (QuadTree) decomposition. This combination does not produce hanging nodes within the mesh refinements and could be extended to tetrahedral meshes in 3D.
Programs and Algorithms of Numerical Mathematics 20 : Hejnice, June 21-26, 2019 : proceedings of seminar
Chleboun, J. ; Kůs, Pavel ; Přikryl, Petr ; Rozložník, Miroslav ; Segeth, Karel ; Šístek, Jakub
This book comprises papers that originated from the invited lectures, survey lectures, short communications, and posters presented at the 20th seminar Programs and Algorithms of Numerical Mathematics (PANM) held in Hejnice, Czech Republic, June 21-26, 2020. All the papers have been peer-reviewed. The seminar was organized by the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences under the auspices of EU-MATHS-IN.cz, Czech Network for Mathematics in Industry. The objective of this series of seminars is to provide a forum for presenting and discussing advanced theoretical as well as practical topics in numerical analysis, computer implementation of algorithms, new approaches to mathematical modeling, and single- or multi-processor applications of computational methods.
