The paper describes the locality Vondruška quarry and quarry in Stará ves near Bílovec. We can find the clastic sediments of the Hradec-Kyjovice members in both localities. Finally, the excursion visits the Green Gas DPB, a.s. where the exhibition of cores from mine drills in Ostrava and Karviná members has been exposed.

Evaluation of cross-correlation relationship between coal characteristics and technological and textural parameters of cokes

This paper deals with the statistical evaluation of the basic characteristics of 26 coal samples and cokes produced and delivered by coking plant Zabrze in Poland. The aim of this study was to evaluate the following correlation relationships between chemical (Ad, Sd, Cla, Pd) and petrographic composition of coal (the content of vitrinite, inertinite, liptinite) and coalification degree (Vdaf, Rr) together with coking parameters (contraction a, dilatation b, swelling index SI) in relation to textural (TIV - total intrusion volume, TPA - total pore area, APD - average pore diameter, BD - bulk density, PS - total porosity), chemical (Ad, Vdaf ) and technological parameters (CRI, CSR) of cokes. The results are discussed and compared with previous studies.

The new finding of a K- bentonite ( tuffite ) seam 22b ( 080.2 OKD " tuffite Ivan " ) in Petřkovice Mbr Ostrava Formation ( Namur A) in the Czech part of the Upper Silesian Basin

New finding of a K-bentonite (tuffite) horizon comes from a mine borehole Staric II 938/13 (depth of 7,6 - 7,62 m). It belongs to the Petrkovice Mbr (Namurian A, Pendleian) in the Ostrava Fm. It occurs 2,3 m in overburden of coal seam 22b (080.2 numeration after Ostrava Mine District). The horizon is located 58 m above the coal tonstein of the coal seam 21d (077 OKD). This K-bentonite horizon is of local importance and will be used for correlation of coal seams in mine field Staric in the Czech part of the Upper Silesian coal basin.

Composition and properties of organic matter in freshwater clays of the lower Cenomanian ( Peruc Mbrs ) from the slope of Litice Chlum in Zamel , East Bohemia

The new finding of coal bearing kaolinite claystone in the Peruc Mbr occurring at the western hillside of Litice Chlum Hill in Zamel near Potstejn has contributed to expanding our knowledge of Czech Republic‘s Lower Cenomanian sediments. The petrographic and chemical investigation was focused on elucidating the composition of the fine-grained sediment and the origin of the organic matter present therein. However, the forms of organic matter preserved in the claystones bring evidence of the existence of an overlay of plant origin of which the residues may have been carried by water and wind to the vicinity of Lower Cenomanian riverbeds. The greater abundance of inertinite macerals coupled with the presence of semicoke representing the remains of incomplete combustion occurring during wildfires also documents the occurrence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and the distribution of n-alkanes exhibiting an unusual maximum.

Coal tonsteins and K- bentonite ( tuffs ) in Poruba Mbrs, Ostrava Formation in the Czech part of the Upper Silesian Basin ( Namur , Arnsberg )

The Poruba Mbrs (Arnsbergian, Namurian A) constitute the topmost stratum of Ostrava Fm (Mississippian: Pendleian – Arnsbergian, Namurian A). The Poruba Mbrs incorporate sequences of terrigenous sediments (K-bentonites and coal tonsteins) where a total of 13 isochronous horizons were found: they extend over larger or smaller areas and exhibit a close spatial relationship to the other faunistic horizons or coal seams located there. The horizons, which are of volcanic origin, were formed by deep transformation of acidic volcanic ash under conditions of tropical climate, either in coal tonstein environments or in terrigenous environments (K-bentonites) in absence of humine substances. The petrographic type of the volcanic ash precursor can be interpreted within the context of the discrimination diagram of Zr/TiO2 vs. Nb/Y (FLOYD & WINCHESTER, 1977). The coal tonsteins and the K-bentonites correspond to the same type of volcanic material for which the points of projection of chemical analyses fall within the field bounded by rhyodacite to dacite, near the boundary with the andesite field.

Poruba Mbrs, Ostrava Formation ( Namurian A, Arnsberg ) in the Czech part of the Upper Silesian Basin

In the Czech part of the Upper Silesian basin, full preservation of the Poruba Mbrs of Ostrava Fm, i.e., retention of their full thickness, can be observed only in the eastern and southern zones of the basin, while no more than relics exposed by denudation remain in the western and central zones. The Poruba Mbrs (Namurian A, Arnsbergian, E2b) were deposited on the outskirts of Ostrava Fm (Namurian A, Pendleian-Arnsbergian) on a flat coastal plain, interspersed with infrequent but regularly spaced marine transgressions. Individual sedimentary sections—mezocycles—are well-defined (within the meaning of the concept put forward by ČEPEK & HAVLENA 1975). Their sedimentary development reflecting the climate changes during the Carboniferous period have been described. Five complete mezocycles were identified (named Koks, Konrad, Lotar, Otakar, and Gaebler after major marine horizons), plus an incomplete one (Filip, constituted by only the upper continental portion of the mezocycle), inasmuch as the marine part (a group of faunistic horizons of Barbora) is presently ascribed to Jaklovec Mbr.
