Gender equality and attitudes toward immigrants in Europe: a cross-national analysis
Chieppa, Ludovica Maria ; Vergé, Tania (vedoucí práce) ; Sadecka, Agnieszka (oponent)
Although previous research has revealed the impact of individual and contextual elements on attitudes toward immigrants across Europe, a gender-focused study of European anti-immigrant attitudes is still lacking. This study examines the role of individuals' gender and macro structures of gender equality in shaping attitudes toward immigrants through the diffusion of benevolent and universalist human values. Drawing on the European Social Survey 2018 and the 2020 Gender Equality Index for 24 European countries, more gender-equal countries are found to be more tolerant toward immigrants, due to their higher self-transcendent values and lower conservation values. Also, no gender differences in attitudes toward immigrants have been found. These findings open the debate on the relationship between gender, gender equality, basic human values, and attitudes toward immigrants, suggesting new avenues for future research.

So, what happens to those women who are highly educated and have aspiration to be integrated in white collar job in Spain? Present data shows that there is an increase of educated migrants among women but why the number of women in labor market in those jobs is not increasing simultaneously? This paper aims to investigate why there are less representation of Latin American female migrants in 'white collar' job in Spain. This paper examines the thorny issue of female migrant integration with a qualitative method by interviewing 16 Latin American female migrants who are highly educated and currently working in Barcelona in a "white collar" job. To do further investigation and understand their challenges from the aspect of race and feminism, there was controlled ratio of participants who has darker...
European Union's Action for Gender Equality in its Foreign Policy: Normative Gender Power?
Petrantsova, Kseniia ; Vergé, Tania (vedoucí práce) ; David, Maxine (oponent)
Gender equality is positioned by the European Union as one of its core values and legal principles. Over the last decade, the EU has increasingly been positioning itself as a gender policy entrepreneur, showing its ambition to challenge the status quo and incite policy change not only in the member states, but also beyond the EU borders. Applying the Normative Power Europe theoretical lens, the research paper seeks to understand whether and how the EU acts in its foreign policy as a normative gender power, focusing on the case of the EU's action towards Russia, which represents a challenging and contrasting setting for the EU's normative power. The research is methodologically based on process tracing and document analysis with the use of quantitative and qualitative content analysis. As follows from the analysis of the EU's assistance to NGOs, public diplomacy actions and joint action with other international actors, the effectiveness of the EU's gender equality promotion in Russia has been limited by the absence of gender equality as a full-fledged policy area within the EU's actions. Although gender equality agenda has been taken on board by the policy makers and the EU actors abroad, overall, gender equality promotion has received limited attention and lacked a systematic approach that would be...
