Gaewu, Gustav Kojo ; Šiška, Jan (vedoucí práce) ; Novosad, Libor (oponent)
The study aims at finding out the perceptions of mainstream and special education teachers towards the education of children with special educational needs in mainstream schools in the Czech Republic. Research has shown that teacher perceptions are important in determining the effectiveness of inclusive education, as teachers are the school personnel most responsible for implementing inclusive education. The research was specifically conducted in one special school for children with mental disability, autism and physical disability, Rakovník, and three mainstream schools in Prague. Qualitative, interpretive research design was used, and the research instruments employed were focus group discussion and semi structured interview. Female teachers constituted the focus group whilst one male teacher, being the deputy head teacher of one mainstream school, was interviewed. The findings suggest that the participants from the special school did not have positive perception towards the education of children with special educational needs in the mainstream setting because of the unavailability of the necessary resources and support services in the mainstream schools. The participants from the mainstream setting, although they expressed the importance of inclusive education, were of the view that the mainstream...

Alindiamao, Greystone Jennyson ; Novosad, Libor (vedoucí práce) ; Šiška, Jan (oponent)
This dissertation reports on the findings of a qualitative study done in a special school in Liberec/I and a mainstream school in Prague. Using a questionnaire, a semi-structured interview and a / / focus group discussion the researcher found that the teachers both in a special school and the [ / mainstream school depend very much on medical and social experts to made decisions regarding the nature of education provision of the learners with hearing impairment. With the expert analysis of hearing loss, learner^with hearing impairment are regarded as deficient commonly referred to as./"the handicapped" and not fit to learn together with hearing learners in a mainstream primary classroom setting. The special education teachers argue that the learners who are placed inffiemain stream classroom settings are only sitting in class and gets very littl^ from the regular teachers who fail to communicate effectively with these hearing impaired learners.

Ng, Kum Loy ; Šiška, Jan (vedoucí práce) ; Novosad, Libor (oponent)
A sport coach, besides providing training to improve an athlete's performance in his/her chosen sport, is also tasked for ensuring that the training and/or competition take place in a safe environment. This ability to factor safe practices is a challenge to any sport coach, especially when the people being coached have intellectual disability (ID). This study aims to explore the perceptions of Special Olympics (SO) sport coaches towards risk factors for injuries and safety issues when they conduct training with their athletes with ID through a self-administered questionnaire and interviews. The six respondents are all practising SO coaches in a SO National Organization with two being beginner coaches and the rest, experienced coaches. The three significant risk factors perceived by these respondents are: (1) Obtaining professional qualifications in sport coaching is very important, (2) Winning a medal is not the most important focus, and (3) Writing down safety plan is not important. It was also found that the coaches' main sources of information on safety practices are from attending SO courses and publications from National Governing Sport Bodies and that these coaches follow a general procedure when handling any injury in their training sessions. In addition, experienced coaches are more intense in their...
Czech School Teachers' Responses to Moral Dilemmas Experienced in Integrated Classrooms
Bangura, Ibrahim Richard ; Šiška, Jan (vedoucí práce) ; Novosad, Libor (oponent)
This dissertation reports findings on the study that was done into how Czech school teachers respond to moral dilemmas experienced while working with children with special education needs in integrated classrooms. The Czech Republic (especially during the period when it was Czechoslovakia) has a very long history and tradition for educating children with disabilities in highly differentiated, segregated, separate and special school settings. The Czech special education system is well developed. However, following the 'Velvet Revolution' of 1989 and the subsequent dissolution of the Czech-Slovakia federation in 1993, a change in the education for children with special education needs was introduced. The preferred system was the integrated education approach. All the children with special education needs must be educated in the mainstream together with non-disabled children. Studies show that teachers generally experience moral dilemmas in their day to day work with children (Sockett, 1993; Oser, 1994; Colnerud, 1997; Tirri, 1999; Tirri & Husu, 2002). However, this is especially pronounced when the children involved are vulnerable children (Tirri & Husu, 2002; Fenstermacher (1986). Majority of the conflict experienced by the Czech teachers were with parents of the children with disabilities. According to...

This qualitative small-scale case study is on "An Analysis of the Special Education Needs (SEN) Degree Programme of the Department of Special Education at Charles University in Prague".
