The role of small and medium CATV operators in providing e-services in the Czech Republic

As the demand for broadband e-services is increasing, there is a good chance for the cable TV operators to successfully compete with the traditional telecommunication operators in providing the services taking advantage of their broadband infrastructure. The paper reviews the Czech telecommunications arena focusing on the role of CATV operators and service providers in general and of the small and medium ones in particular.

Optika a její konkurenti v přístupových sítích

V práci jsou diskutovány různé technologické varianty přístupových sítí: metalické, optické a bezdrátové. Jsou posouzeny a porovnány jejich vlastnosti z hlediska dosažitelných technických parametrů, nákladů na jejich výstavbu a provoz, legislativních omezení a perspektiv dalšího rozvoje. Je uvedeno rozdělení trhu podle přístupového média v Japonsku, Norsku, Irsku a ČR ke konci r. 2007.

Skelnatění přístupových sítí - situační zpráva

Up-to-date information on the progress in implementation of optical access networks abroad and in the Czech Republic is given. Special attention is given to the situation in Europe, progress in this area in France, where mass implementation of optical fibres in access network has already begun, a is described in detail. A list of companies providing access to broadband networks over optical fibre links in the CR is given and the main obstacles to accelerate this process are identified.

Sítě FTTx v r. 2008 – co je nového ve světě

The presentation gives an overview of the worldwide progress and trends in the development of optical access networks FTTx. Special attention is paid to situation in Europe. Competitive technologies for broadband access to the Internet are also considered. The presentation observes that while in Japan, Korea and recently also in the USA the FTTx access networks have become a massive phenomenon, in Europe FTTx are being so far built mainly by municipalities and utilities with the exception of France.

Hnací síly a brzdy zavádění optiky do přístupových sítí doma a ve světě

Přesto, že sítě typu FTTx jsou tím nejperspektivnějším řešením pro přístupové sítě, jsou zralé a na trhu je dostatečná nabídka příslušných zařízení, tempo jejich zavádění do praxe se v jednotlivých zemích i regiónech velmi liší. V přednášce je mapována aktuální situace v budování a využívání optických přístupových sítí doma i v zahraničí. Je učiněn pokus najít odpověď na otázku – co pohání a co brzdí zavádění optiky do přístupových sítí doma a ve světě.

V příspěvku jsou presentovány aktuální informace o budování a využívání optických přístupových sítí doma i v zahraničí. Důraz je kladen na ekonomické a politické aspekty tohoto procesu. Jsou popsány některé úspěšné domácí i zahraniční projekty realizace FTTx. Je učiněn pokus naznačit trendy rozvoje sítí založených na technologii FTTx.

FTTx v ČR a ve světě – současný stav a perspektivy

The fact that, apart from Japan and South Korea, also the biggest US operators have launched their FTTx projects, proves that the era of deploying optical fibres in the access networks has started in earnest. The authors of the paper, as part of their activities in the framework of the European IST project BReATH (BRoadband e-services and Access for The Home) have gathered up-to-date information on the status and prospects of development of FTTx networks in the Czech Republic and in the world.
