Nowadays the general public is constantly exposed to sunlight and thus to UV radiation. Because UV light is a proven carcinogen and because of the rapid ozone layer depletion in the recent past it is more crucial than ever to monitor the amount of personal exposure and to be aware of the risks the irradiation poses when safe dose is surpassed. This paper deals with the development and simplification of personal UV dosimeters for wider use so that a non-professional can read and assess the amount of risk posed by extended UV exposure.
