Photocatalyzed Degradation of Dibutylphthalate with Goethite and Carboxylic Acids
Hejda, S. ; Bajt, O. ; Krýsa, J. ; Klusoň, Petr
The general experiment was performed as it follows. To the solution of dibutylphthalate (2.9 x 10-5 M) goethite was added (0.25 g L-1). Suspension was homogenized in an ultrasonic bath, oxalic acid (1 x 10-3 M) was added to the homogenized suspension, and subsequently the reaction mixture was irradiated at 365 nm. The pH was kept constant using a pH-stat. Samples were taken in different time intervals, centrifuged and analyzed by HPLC.

Competitive adsorption and photodegradation of salicylate and oxalate on goethite
Krýsa, J. ; Jirkovský, Jaromír ; Bajt, O. ; Mailhot, G.
It is known that Fe(III) aquacomplexes were proved to be efficient photocatalyst to induce the complete mineralisation of variety of pollutants. There are several crystalline polymorphs of iron oxohydroxide present in soil as well as marine sediments. Goethite was found as one of the most common components of sediments in the Gulf of Triest.
Photodegradation of monuron in the presence of goethite and carboxylic acids
Bajt, O. ; Krýsa, J. ; Jirkovský, Jaromír ; Zita, J. ; Paušová, Š.
Iron is one of the most abundant elements in the environment. It is also an essential micronutrient for most known aquatic organisms, Its role in primary production in natural waters is very important. However, the low solubility of iron oxides at pHs, significant the low availability of iron to aquatic plants and microorganisms. Goethite, an iron oxohydroxide, is one of the most abundant iron oxide in the natural marine environment.
