The aphorism as constellation. Nietzsche and the problem of style

The question of style is not only relevant for the study of literature, it also forms a philosophical problem. The style is namely both the form and the mode of thought that configures itself as form. The highest expression of the tension between thought and writing is for Nietzsche the aphorism, which, although it presents itself as an expression of fragmentary thinking, at the same time lets us intuit the possibility of a unitary form, a constellation of aphorisms. This ambivalence between fragmentation and necessity of form has often lead to a 'romantic' interpretation of the aphorism, according to which the romantic fragment is understood as the desire for a new system. This thesis, however, is the attempt to interpret the aphorism not as the expression of the dualism between fragment and system, but rather as a space of experimentation, in which the fragmentary and systematic modes of thought merge as two aspects of the same process of knowledge.
