Ways of using the psychobiographical model in the care of the elderly in residential facilities

The thesis is dedicated to the use of Erwin Böhm's Psychobiographical model in the care provided to the elderly who are clients of residential institutions. The aim is to find out how the introduction of the Psychobiographical model is reflected in client care and how social workers use this model in the care of the elderly in the context of the general quality standard number 5 - individual care planning. Specifically, the thesis will map how are used the biography and the data obtained through the client biography model. The aim will be achieved through a qualitative study, which will consist of two main parts: 1) semi-structured interviews with social workers in residential facilities for the elderly; 2) analysis of individual care plans and client biographies. The analysis shows that the Psychobiographical Model of Care is reflected in all areas of care. Its use opens up new possibilities for the care provided, building on the client's abilities and possibilities based on his/her life story. However, this potential relies primarily on a proactive approach by staff to use the model. In practice, there are also links between the Psychobiographical Model and palliative care.
