Comedy by Václav Kliment Klicpera

The resource of this work is the play The Miller’s Monkey, which was compiled by the author of this work for the Prague Estates Theater. The play is based on all completed comedies of Václav Kliment Klicpera written in Czech. Klicpera’s comedy work consequently appeared to be an ideal material to which the generally defined topic of the author’s doctoral study can be taken in: “Between `grand drama’ theatres and small `cabaret’ stages”, thus basically as well as between drama and mime, between theater and cabaret. There is, in crystalline form, the insight of dramaturgic thinking to the author’s approach, which is the essence of such “research by creation” and which we could call “from the scene to the drama”. 16 chapters were created, based on the particular scenes of The Miller’s Monkey, marked in summary “Klicpera’s reservoir of situations, characters and motives”, dealing with specific questions of Klicpera’s comedy world – such as language, acting, the way of managing the plot and many more –, but also comedies by themselves. The resulting play is not only an annex of this dissertation work, but an integral part of it. How its subtitle sounds: playful dissertation

A Word in a Space

The doctoral dissertation named A word in a space (A scene solution and an audience experience of a drama) is a theoretical reflection of six productions I was involved as a director in the years from 2008 to 2013 Four of them are wrote by czech authors: Josef Topol: The End of Carnival, Josef Kajetán Tyl: Bloody Christening or Drahomíra and her sons, František Langer: Periphery, and Lenka Lagronová: From the dust of stars; and two plays are from authors abroad: Anton Pavlovich Chekhov: Ivanov and Pedro Calderón de la Barca: Them Constant Prince. The subject of this research is the relationship between internal theme of a playwright??s text and scene solution that specifies the audience reception. I assume here, that what wiever sees and hears creates for his perception ? perception connected with experiencing followed by imagining ? binding conditions.

This thesis called Hidden aspects of the directing work deals with thepreparation process of the production, with the set of decisions, which (by theauthor of the thesis) director has to make before the process of rehearsing willbegin. Although these decisions remain invisible to the audience, however, affect all components which are involved in the final form of production.

The doctoral dissertation "Jiří Hálek and Jiřina Třebická: Acting at the Činoherní Klub in the 1960s" is dedicated to two outstanding figures of Czech theatre. Both born in 1930, Hálek and Třebická were members of the original Činoherní Klub (Drama Club) company fiounded in prague in 1965 who through their craft, especially in ground - breaking works by Ladislav Smoček, Alena Vostrá and PAvel landovský, helped determine the shape of modern Czech drama, which in the late 60s and early 70s came to be admired and acclaimed throughout Europe.

Psychological context of scenic production

This dissertation thesis investigates selected (but substantial) topics of scenic art. It is based on theoretical work of prominent art and theater personalities (Frejka, Hilar, Zich, Vostry and others). Emotions, empathy, inner touch perception and distance are discussed in detail. In empirical research part there is studied a special way of art personality reaction in situation of meeting uncertainty. To process it Rorschach projective method was used.

This thesis tries to phrase specifics and patterns of a stage creation that contains latent possibilities, which challenge an actor (a performer) to dynamic and physical acting.
Simultaneously this thesis researches, how such stage creation works upon a spectator, how it acts on a spectator?s ?inner feel? and how it participates in creation of a spectator?s experience from a whole performance.
This thesis is mainly based on author?s practical experiences with theatre works.

Throughout my thesis, I will strive to portrait theater acting and manifestation of collaboration and resistance in the field of Czech, Austrian and The German Reich´s theatre (and artin general) as comprehensively as possible. I will attempt to answer the question, whether and how much the Nazis misused this culture area. I cover the activities of theatremakers, filmmakers and plays during 1939-1945, mostly by Nazi propaganda and counter-propaganda by the Allies, I had to know Czech, German and English literature related to the topic, the movies, theatre plays, literature and archive documents related to the activities of domestic makers and emigrants
