VORÁČEK, ONDŘEJ: Kenya between Authoritarianism and Democracy. Democratization and Regime Changes from 1992 to 2010. Rigorous Thesis This thesis is concerned with a matter of research of new sorts of nondemocratic regimes in wider framework of a global wave of democratization. The center of its attention is focused on the process of democratization in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly on the transformation of the political regime in the Republic of Kenya from 1992 to 2010. It submits a hypothesis about frozen democratization and stabilization of a nondemocratic hybrid regime here. The main core of this thesis makes up a case study of Kenyan democratization. An analysis attends, besides basic characteristics of a political system, to politico-historical development with emphasis on elections and postelection regime changes. It also examines specific internal attributes of the political system and long-term factors, which can affect process of democratization. Initial hypothesis is verified on the basis of proposed findings. Keywords democratization, hybrid regimes, Kenya
