A comparison of the historical accuracy of the Renaissance art in the computer game Assasin's Creed II
VARGOVÁ, Hana
The bachelor thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. Its goal is to compare, above all, the architecture of Renaissance Florence with its game interpretation and thereby gain an overview of similarities and differences. Furthermore, it is also determined how history is presented in today's culture to young people. The theoretical part focuses mainly on the growth of the game industry and along with that on the Ubisoft company. It was responsible for the development of Assasin's Creed II, which is the core game for this thesis. It describes the society, architecture and the associated art of Renaissance Florence as depicted by the developers in the game. Because of the chosen subject matter of the game, it is also necessary to mention here the emergence and development of the Templar and Assassin brotherhoods. In the second part of the theoretical section, the actual history of Renaissance Florence is described. Here the architecture and society of the city are described. Finally, the history and architecture of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, which is the key building for the practical part of this thesis, is discussed in more detail. The practical part therefore focuses on the façade of the basilica and its interpretation in the game. It also contains sketches and study material that serves as a basis for the final modelling of this fragment.
Role makrofágy produkovaného cytokinu IMPL2 v regulaci systemického metabolismu během bakteriální infekce u \kur{Drosophila melanogaster}
VARGOVÁ, Hana
The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to verify whether ImpL2, produced by activated immune cells, is responsible for changes in systemic metabolism during the immune response during the acute phase of bacterial infection in Drosophila melanogaster. The theoretical part includes previously known information about the immune system of mammals and D. melanogaster, especially about polarization and cellular metabolism of macrophages, as well as knowledge about the roles of the ImpL2 gene and its mammalian homologue Igfbp7. The practical part of the bachelor thesis deals with the role of the ImpL2 gene in the induction of changes in systemic metabolism during the immune response. The effect of the cytokine IMPL2 on selected metabolic genes in adipose tissue after Streptococcus pneumoniae infection was tested by means of macrophage-specific RNA interference. The work also clarifies whether this signaling factor has an effect on the concentration of selected metabolites in circulation and in macrophages during the acute phase of bacterial infection.
Counterinsurgency in Afghanistan: Soviet vs. American model
Vargová, Hana ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Ditrych, Ondřej (referee)
This Thesis attempts to be an overview of the so far achievements accomplished in the fight against the Afghani rebels and in the reconstruction and state-building in Afghanistan. The author seeks to analyse strategies applied by the Soviets during the Cold War invasion (1979- 1989) and the Western allies under the U.S. leadership in cooperation with NATO (2001- present). The paper describes tactics of the invaders in the two wars and identifies "tipping points" when the conventionally stronger invading powers had to resort to counterinsurgency tactics. The author applies counterinsurgency warfare theory presented by David Galula and others in those phases of conflicts in order to evaluate the success or failure of given strategies. The theoretical framework consists of the theory of asymmetrical conflicts, insurgency warfare and counterinsurgency theory with special focus on its implications when applied in Afghanistan. The main goal of the work is to analyse the weaknesses of the Soviet strategy and to inquire whether the Western allies are not repeating the same mistakes their Cold War counterparts committed.
