Unrealised Projects for the Expansion of the National Museum in the Years 1937 and 1939

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to present a topic that hasn't been extensively covered yet. The work will try to capture two architectural design competitions that were held in 1937 and then in 1939 in order to expand the National Museum in Prague by a new building for exhibition, storage and research purposes. The first chapter will describe what lead to the point when the construction of a new building seemed inevitable. The second chapter will focus on the architectural design competition that took place in 1937 and what were its circumstances, results, or architects involved. The chapter will also describe the architectural designs in the context of the location and its specific problems, based on what had been discovered in the National Museum Archives. The third chapter will focus on the same characteristic features of the second competition held in 1939.
