Polynomials in text-books in the Czech Republic and in Finland

This thesis focuses on the teaching of algebra, especially its part called polynomials. The first part contains general characteristics, regularities and goals of teaching algebra at school according to the presentation in specialized literature. The main goal of the work is to compare how polynomials are taught in the Czech Republic and Finland, considering its interpretation and extent in curriculum and textbooks. By comparing selected Czech and Finnish lower and upper secondary school textbooks, it was found out that there was a difference in the extent of teaching patterns for working with polynomials. While the interpretation of this is similar in all of the textbooks, the extent in Czech lower secondary school textbooks is comparable to the extent in Finnish textbooks for upper secondary school with extended education in mathematics. There is also a collection of problems included in this work, as these can act as motivation in teaching polynomials. They have been chosen from Czech and Finnish textbooks and categorized according to their assignment.

A School Education Programme for Gifted Students

Tato práce je zaměřená na tvorbu školního vzdělávacího programu základní školy nebo nižšího stupně víceletého gymnázia, který počítá s integrací jednotlivých mimořádně nadaných žáků, nebo početnějších skupin takovýchto žáků do běžných tříd. Práce se zabývá problematikou informovanosti ve vzdělávání mimořádně nadaných žáků. V druhé části se formou komentované analýzy současného stavu rozebírají dokumenty, na jejichž základě se připravil Rámcový vzdělávací program pro základní vzdělávání. Z něj pak vychází samotná tvorba školních vzdělávacích programů. Jedná se o Bílou knihu, Dlouhodobý záměr vzdělávání a rozvoje vzdělávací soustavy České republiky, Dlouhodobý záměr vzdělávání a rozvoje vzdělávací soustavy hlavního města Prahy. Dále se v této části popisuje, na základě osobních schůzek a rozhovorů, politika a práce státních institucí, pod jejichž působnost spadá vzdělávání mimořádně nadaných žáků. Jedná se o následující instituce: Ministerstvo školství mládeže, tělovýchovy a sportu, Výzkumný ústav pedagogický v Praze a Institut pedagogicko-psychologického poradenství. Kromě těchto institucí se rozebírá i činnost občanských sdružení a jiných uskupení, které se věnují péči o nadané nebo hledají nové směry ve vzdělávání. Metaphor in mathematics

Die Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Auftreten von Metaphern in der Mathematik. Die Arbeit ist in drei Teile geteilt. In dem ersten Teil werden teoretische Erkenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der Semiotik zusammengefasst, einer Wissenschaft, die sich mit Zeichen beschäftigt, unter welche die Metapher gehört. Weiter werden einzelne Metapherarten bekannt gemacht. Der zweite Teil wird der Analyse von ausgewählten Kapiteln der Mathematiklehrbüchern gewidmet und macht bekannt, welche Metapherarten man in diesen Lehrbüchern finden kann. Der dritte Teil beschreibt ein Experiment, das auf die Forschung von ausgewählten Metapherarten (Orientierungsmetaphern, ontologischen Metaphern, Begriffen, die aufgrund der Metapher entstanden sind) und einer unpassenden Verwendung von Metaphern in Mathematikunterricht gerichtet ist.

The Implementation of a School Education Programme in a Primary School with a view to Education in the Field of Mathematics and its Application

The main part of this thesis is disquisition dealing with the implementing of the Frame education programme for elementary school especially in the field of education considering Mathematics and its application in the Orlickoustecko region. The thesis is focused mainly onto the teachers and their problems with school education programme elaboration. Inevitable parts of disquisition are also analysis of the region and particular schools in term of uprise conditions of such an education programme, questionnaire disquisition and its interpretation, subsequent interviews with teachers and last but not least the case study of school education programmes for lower classes of multi-annual grammar schools chiefly in the field of education considering Mathematics and its application. The first part brings in starting points, which implicate the elaboration and subsequent interpretation of the disquisition. It is mainly about historical connections and about status quo and modern trends analyses in the field of education considering Mathematics. Pupils' Communication when Solving Problems in Mathematics in Groups

Cooperative group work presents further tasks for students in addition to solving the assigned problems themselves. The students are forced to formulate their suggestions and approaches and defend, substantiate and explain them to their partners more than when they are working independently. When working cooperatively, the students create and reconstruct their relationships to one another. Cooperation in a group can give the students room to acquire new skills not only in the area of mathematics, but also in the area of interpersonal communication and social relationships. The aim of this thesis is to identify features which are characteristic for communication in the cooperative solving of problems and to determine whether communication in the group influences the process of problemsolving, and if so, how. The basis for the analysis was a corpus of transcripts of conversations between students which took place as part of an experiment. In this experiment, elementary school students of homogeneous ability between the ages of 13 and 15 worked on solving logic problems in small groups. Several New Methods for Developing Geometric Visualization

'Často se setkáváme s názorem, že geometrické učivo je ve školské matematice podceňováno, a to nejen z hlediska jeho rozsahu v osnovách nebo vzdělávacích programech. Šetření ukazují, že i učitelé dávají ve své práci přednost ostatním partiím matematiky. Tento jev je celosvětový a nemáme pro něj přiměřené zdůvodnění. Přitom je v rozporu se základním posláním matematického vzdělání. Školská matematika vytváří předpoklady pro rozvoj řady kompetencí nezbytných pro každého člověka v jeho praktickém životě. Geometrizace reálného světa, orientace v prostoru a času, dovednosti modelovat a zobrazovat, to jsou významné a nezpochybnitelné cíle školské geometrie. Říkáme, že každý člověk by měl být vybaven dostatečně rozvinutou geometrickou představivostí. Ta mu usnadňuje celou řadu aktivit důležitých pro jeho úspěšný praktický život. Učitelé matematiky i didaktici proto hledají nové formy rozvíjení této představivosti. V současné době dáváme přednost formám, které žáky pozitivně motivují osvojování geometrických poznatků, mají konstruktivní charakter a na základní škole přispívají také paralelnímu rozvíjení dovedností motorických. Zvolila jsem si geometrii překládaného papíru jako východisko mého úsilí. V souvislosti s ní jsem dospěla i otázkám rozvíjení prostorové představivosti. Ta mě potom dovedla některým novým...
