A Gender Analysis of Novel By Michal Viewegh: Biomanželka
Šretr Rosenbergová, Zuzana ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Baslarová, Iva (referee)
In this master thesis I focus on literary analysis of Michal Viewegh's novel Biomanželka (Biowife), published in 2010 from the feminist perspective. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical-methodological and analytical. The key concept of my thesis is feminist literary criticism, namely the resisting reader method or rather the "reading as a woman" method, and I also include feministic archetypal analysis. Further I address literary canon, popular literature issues and the concept of male supremacy. In the analytical part I deal with the ways the main characters are presented from the feminist point of view and I identify them with some of the archetypes. I also focus on the methods the novel deals with patriarchal discourse and whether the text might be phalogocentric.
