The Funding of Music Education in the Czech Republic

The thesis deals with the issues of financing music education in the Czech Republic. The education field is analysed and linked to finance. Music education copying general education is characterised. It consists of three stages – elementary, middle and higher specialised education.The thesis draws from analyses of the Ministry of Education and annual reports on the economic mangement of educational organisations. This is supported by charts containing budget data, numbers of facilities and numbers of students at individual education stages.
Digital Music Piracy in the Czech republic

This bachelor´s thesis describes piracy in the context of digital music in the Czech republic. At the beginning I focus on the history of piracy in the field of art and I present the first law copyright system protecting author‘s rights. Additionally I analyse piracy in the music industry and its process and manners. The aim of this thesis is to clarify use of music protected by copyright. What is the danger of illegaly shared and downloaded music in the Czech republic? I explore author´s rights in the Czech legislation as well as in the European context. At the end of this thesis I present Czech organizations which were established to protect author´s rights and I answer the question whether the protection is sufficient.
International Music Competitions and their Work with Laureates

This thesis discusses international music competitions, their struggle with their subjectivity, awarded prizes and following up the success of their laureates. In a case study the thesis introduces the International Music Competition Prague Spring, its history and present. The competition is analyzing by using the SWOT analysis and intern analysis methods. Based on its results the thesis suggests solutions in terms of strategic planning, work with media, partners and laureates.
Cultural centers in the Middle East

The diploma thesis is a study of cultural life in the Middle East. It focuses on thirteen countries from Egypt to Iran and their cultural centers. These are mainly opera houses, musical ensembles and educational institutions. The first part captures the most important facts of the Muslim world to bring the reader to the topic. The second part contains information on particular institutions and the results of the research are summarized and explained at the end of the thesis. This was supported by questionnaires given in the Czech Republic, Germany and selected countries of the Middle East.
Leadership and its application in artistic organizations

The goal of the study “Leadership and its application in artistic organizations: Case study of the National Theatre in Prague and the Czech Philharmonic” is to investigate the area of effective leadership in general. Subsequently the findings related to leadership in general will be applied to the environment of artistic organizations, with special regard to the Contributory Organizations of the Ministry of Culture in Prague. In the final part of the study, that has been researched as a case study, the general findings and researched data will be interpreted and discussed in detail. The study of leadership and researched organizations has proven that effective leadership is now a crucial area for all organizations. Leadership is becoming the key for the correct functioning of the organization. Moreover it is very important for well-being, satisfaction and productivity of employees. It is therefore vital to initiate changes that will help to fulfil leaders’ tasks.
Management of Music Festivals.

This master thesis focuses on the management of music festivals. The theoretical part defines the term festival, sets Stakeholders and the various areas of management, which must the organizational teams of festivals take care of. Followed by two case studies. The first one compares the Czech International Music Festival Prague Spring and the English City of London Festival. The second case study applies the theoretical knowledge and the results of the comparison of the two major and professionally lead festivals into practice and explores the emerging International Festival of Film Music and Multimedia Soundtrack Poděbrady.
Online marketing. Leveraging social media to promote classical music

This thesis is focused on online marketing and it’s features within the classical music context. The introduction briefly presents the Internet, marketing and online marketing. The thesis adresses following questions: using online tools, what can we do to let young people know about classical music? Which social media are ideal to connect with specific focus groups? Is leveraging social media at Czech music scene internationally competitive? Social media are introduced on a level of a common user, the analysis shows the suitability of various media for classical music institutions (orchestra, opera house, festival, interpret). While preserving the specificity of it, classical music is here seen as a (marketing) product. The thesis shows summary of all social media which are usefull for communication with people who use them. It also poses fundamental rules for effective use of social media.
The charity concerts and their musical and social benefits

This bachelor’s thesis is a study of how to organize a public concert as a fundraising project for charitable purposes. In the first section, the history of such concerts for the public good is discussed and the preparations are outlined for the concert of this study. In the second, the results of a public questionnaire are given and interviews with a professional fundraiser and with principals of a charity trust are presented. The final section describes some personal experiences with such projects. The thesis aims to describe the arrangements that are necessary for a successful charity concert and to show the benefits of such a project for the public good.
New strategies of classical music presentation

This thesis analyses new ways of interpreting and producing classical music using two examples, the Komische Oper Berlin and Metropolitan Opera New York - two highly influential hubs of classical music. The thesis sets out to critically assess whether and how these institutions succeed in attracting new audiences by means of modern production and marketing while keeping high level of per- formed art.
The meaning of Alfred Radok´s award and asses the activities of the Alfred Radok´s foundation

The Master thesis discusses the origin, development and termination of Alfred Radok's foundation. Furthermore the thesis deals with Alfred Radok's award endowment fund, which was focusing on the presentation of Alfred Radok's award. The aim of this thesis is to assess the activities of the foundation and of the endowment fund with a special focus on issues Alfred Radok's awards ceremony during its 23-year's operation. A great benefit of the thesis is information which is not going to be accessible anymore due to the end of Alfred Radok's awards. Alfred Radok's awards were composed of two parts. First part was an anonymous dramatic competition which awards the best script of an original Czech theatre play. And the second part was awarding of a production categories. Results of the production categories were based on a theatre critic's survey. The aim was to find out how are the critics and publicists satisfied with this survey. The method of the research was qualitative investigation based on semi-structured interviews. In conclusion, the data was evaluated and interpreted.
