The Progress of Play-acting in Příbram. From Amateur Endeavours to Professional Scene.

The diploma work deals with the transformation process of amateur theatre into the regular professional company in Příbram. The main interest is given to the period beginning with the foundation of official amateur societies after 1867. The first part of the work deals with amateur societies acting in the area of Příbram. A sort of transition from amateur to pro-fessional theatre is described in the chapter about the Society for Building the Town Theatre at Příbram. The second part of the work covers the beginning and later destiny of the profes-sional scene in Příbram. For a better idea on the situation of Příbram theatre groups a general development of both the amateur and the professional theatre is drawn up for comparison. Appendix to the work helps the reader to gain a better image of the atmosphere and circum- stances of the development of play-acting in Příbram from the second half of the 19th century till today. Naive and instructed description of voices

This thesis deals with the description of the human voice from the forensic phonetic perspective. At the beginning of the theoretical part, some important cases from the history of this field are mentioned, as well as the attitude of judges to the voice as evidence.The main tasks of forensic phonetics are then briefly presented. The remainder of the theoretical part is devoted to summarizing the existing knowledge from the field of audiovisual perception and comparison of voice description and face description, including several concrete examples of systematic approaches to obtaining these descriptions, both for professional purposes and for the needs of investigators in practise. The aim of the practical part is to compare the initial uninstructed, naive description of the voice of selected speakers, obtained from the respondents in a simulated police questioning, followed by an instructed systematic description according to the interrogation protocol, which uses the layman's formulation of the individual questions instead of the original phonetic terminology, and illustrative sound samples to make it easier for the respondents to understand the protocol and to give a more detailed account of the heard voice. Characteristic of hesitation sounds in Czech and the level of their perceptional intrusiveness

This thesis deals with the issue of hesitation sounds in spoken Czech. The theoretical and the descriptive part focuses primarily on the description of hesitation sounds as one of the relatively common features of a spontaneous speech, their typology, mapping possible pragmatic functions they may have in different communication situations, and the tendency of their positioning in a discourse. By using a perception test, the aim of the practical part is to discover how the perceptional intrusiveness of hesitation sounds in the form of filled pauses is perceived by a listener, compared to silent pauses. The hypothesis behind this experiment is based on the assumption that silent pauses will be perceived as more intrusive than filled pauses. The statistically supported results confirm this hypothesis; however, due to a relatively narrow range and a low number of respondents and the specific choice of test items, such conclusion cannot be generalized beyond the frame of the given material.
