Aging (un)conventionally: Nonheteronormative Ageing in Czech Republic

Non-normative old age? Are there elderly men and women with a non-normative gender identity: questions that often provoke a kind of 'horror'. The reason for such a reaction (Dvořáková 2018) is the socially prevailing notion that older people are asexual and that the issues of sexuality, sexual acts and partnership are completely 'unknown' to older people. The thesis challenges such discriminating notions about older people. The theoretical framework the concept of (un)conventional old age. The analysis aim to provide an insight into the non- normative aging and reflects the experiences of and life choices that the elderly men and women make with regard to their non-hetero-normative gender and sexual identity. Specifically, the thesis deals not only with the formation of non-normative identities or partnerships, but also how the elderly experience old age.
