This bachelor thesis describes the changes in society's view of people with mental disabilities in recent centuries at first, then it is approaching the meanings of the words „mental handicap“ and briefly explains the various classifications of these handicaps. I also work with concept of characters with mental disabilities in Czech cinematography 1993 - 2007. To detect negative stereotypes about people with mental disabilities in the Czech films I use analysis of specific films of that time period. And at the end I find the most common negative stereotypes in these films. One of the most common negative stereotype is the presentation of death - or any form of destruction, silencing, or imprisonment - a character with mental disabilities, as the only possible solution for the character with mental disabilities and society too.

Aristoteles on MRI: Screenwriting through perspective of cognitive science
Šifra, Miroslav ; POZZI, Jaroslav (advisor) ; KAJÁNKOVÁ, Lucia (referee)
Our stories are not taking place in the cinema, but in the mind of viewer - that's basic idea behind this thesis. Best tools for insight into the minds of people are coming from cognitive sciences, but their perspective is often ignored by screenwriters. How does the pattern-seeking brain works? Which psychological effects can influence the first act of screenplay? What is an anchoring? What screenwriter needs to know about selling home bakery? What is theory of mirror neurons and what it can teach us about an empathy? How much information is just too much? And how viewer's attention operates? These questions and examples from author's own work attempt to describe how to look at screenwriter's craft through the cognitive perspective.

Kabelková, Adéla ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; POZZI, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis Fan fiction and the "Mary Sue" phenomenon is concerned with the iterary text written by fans, primarily based on already existing work. This work wants to introduce the history of fan fiction, the specifics of this genre and the relationship between the author of the original work and the fan fiction writer. The legal issues surrounding the fan fiction is also outlined. The main focus is, however, devoted to the concept of the "overly perfect heroine", which is often present in fan works. In the realm of fan fiction, the name Mary Sue is used for this type of character, which is often perceived as "unbearable" for the reader. The most significant characteristics of this phenomenon will be shown on three Czech fan stories from the Harry Potter universe. Subjective definition of the three basic types of the Mary Sue character will be defined on the basis of these stories.

By analyzing several selected Czech road movies and their use of the rules and features characteristic for the genre, it attempts to prove whether the above precondition holds, or not.
