The use of interdisciplinary relationships in the natural sciences teaching to motivate and deepen the understanding of scientific phenomena and processes

The diploma thesis analyses how to apply the interdisciplinary relationships in the natural sciences teaching. The aim is to motivate and deepen the understanding of scientific phenomena and processes. The first theoretical part informs about the interdisciplinary relationships, concept of STEM education, science curriculum, inquiry-based science education and textbooks. The four thematic lessons focused on butterflies, bacteria, elephants, and fungi were created based on analysis of ten new textbooks and consultations with four teachers. The three lessons were selected to be tested on students from first year of second stage of elementary schools in South Bohemia.

PaedDr. Radka Závodská, Ph.D. The bachelor thesis focuses on the topic of scientists and biological discoveries in natural history curriculum in the second grade of primary school. Theoretical part contains natural history curriculum, informs about the application of the historical method in the natural history, and contains an analysis of natural history textbooks and introduction of scientific celebrities. The questionnaire was created on the base of the analysis of twenty-four textbooks and curriculum of natural history. In total, ninety participants took part in the survey from four primary schools and seven grammar schools. The analysis shows a good pupil's knowledge of scientific celebrities from textbooks and poor knowledge of modern ones. Seven scientific celebrities with their contributions or discovery were selected and worked up in the worksheets that can be used by pupils during their natural history education at primary as well as grammar schools.
