Approaches to study of recycling urban space in the Czech Republic: Development and perspective
Osman, Robert ; Malý, Jiří ; Klusáček, Petr
This paper deals with the issue of recycling urban spaces, specifically abandoned and unused areas (brownfields) in the Czech Republic. Regeneration of these areas is important especially because of their economic, social and environmental burden. Previous researches on recycling urban space, however, neglected the study of the revitalization process to some extent. Thus, a recycling space may be seen through the concept of a network, explicitly through the Actor-network theory (A-NT).

Time-space mobility of Prague inhabitants threatened by social exclusion
Hruška, Martin ; Matoušek, Roman (advisor) ; Osman, Robert (referee)
Society in twenty-first century faces many issues and is becoming more complex than ever. Therefore, the ability to understand different groups around us is becoming crucial. This is important not only from a planning or political perspective but also from the civil coexistence of the majority with the minorities. This paper is based on numerous theories and concepts that are applied in the social context of today's transforming post-socialist cities. Prague is the biggest and the richest city in the Czech Republic. Due to its size and high attractiveness for different layers of the population, Prague is a place where the social inequalities are fully displayed. A certain degree of differentiation in society is natural. However, after 1989 the Prague's population became polarized. On the one side, there are the traditional city neighborhoods and emerging districts for rich people. On the other side, there are the newly emerged parts of the city for socially excluded. The groups living in these neighborhoods are in an unequal position with each other and this difference is not diminishing. As shown by various studies, only a small percentage of people is able to rise from the rock bottom back into the mainstream society. The goal of this thesis is to answer some questions around those issues that...

These activities are influenced by certain higher order rules - so-called pacemakers, which are dealt with in the thesis. Part of the thesis not only presents some space-time concepts, but also applies them in practice. The work proceeds from a basic concept of a place being structured through life actors themselves who create such place. These concept pacemakers play an important role, controlling the course of everyday life of the localized place, as well as the course of an ordinary day in the life of the actor. The institution of primary school becomes the main pacemaker and represents a linking element of all parts. In connection with the ongoing process of suburbanization and the reality of changing lifestyle and demographic composition in the neighborhood of cities, one may observe here certain indication of current changing supralocal influence of primary school pacemakers in Pilsen and its suburbs. The paper also focuses on the analysis of a particular place, the municipality where the individual pacemakers manifest and create the polyrythmicity of place through localized rhythms. Moreover, it also places focus on pacemakers operating...
