Antiradical Activity of Tannins Contained Herbal Extracts - Rubi idaei folium, Rubi fruticosi folium, Fragariae folium and Agrimoniae herba.
Neckářová, Zuzana ; Spilková, Jiřina (advisor) ; Siatka, Tomáš (referee)
The experimental and clinical studies are bringing evidence of significant role of free radicals, especially reactive forms of oxygen in pathogenesis of whole range of diseases. Information accumulation regarding the role of free radicals in organism and of consequences of their negative effect brings with an increased interest in searching of new substances with antioxidant activity. The subject of this work is testing antiradical activity of aqueous extracts from drugs Rubi idaei folium, Rubi fruticosi folium, Fragariae folium, and Agrimoniae herba. These drugs are used in therapy for their content of tannins and flavonoids such as adstringentia in inflammations and wounds treatment often in form of aqueous tinctures. Activity towards DPPH radical and superoxide radical was screened to detect antiradical activity of aqueous extracts of drugs. As comparative substances were used epigallocatechin gallate, (-)-epicatechine and (+)-catechine. Antioxidant activity of different intensity was discovered at all tested drugs. Towards DPPH radical was the most effective extract of Agrimoniae herba with IC50 = 91,95 μg/ml. The activity of tested drugs descended in order Fragariae folium IC50 = 102,94 μg/ml, Rubi fruticosi folium IC50 = 106,40 μg/ml and Rubi idaei folium IC50 = 148,40 μg/ml. The activity of...
Antioxidative properties of herbal extracts
Neckářová, Zuzana ; Spilková, Jiřina (advisor) ; Siatka, Tomáš (referee)
Antioxidative properties of herbal extracts The main subject of this graduation thesis is the assessment of anti-oxidation activity of Stellaria media. Anti-oxidation protection of the organism is a complex process of mechanisms, which must be in balance with the production of free radicals. The excess of the free radicals are referred to as oxidation stress. The organism is able to resist the free radicals inducing oxidation stress with the preventative and remedial mechanisms, physical barriers or with the influence of antioxidants of enzymatic and non-enzymatic origin. Great attention is particularly paid to the incidence of free radicals in the live organism. These are mainly reactive nitrogen radicals (RNS) and reactive oxygen radicals (ROS), also including superoxide, but this is not only a harmful radical, it also plays an important role during the protection of the organism against infection. It forms a part of the effective weapon of phagocytes against bacteria and extraneous structures. The subject of my graduation thesis was Stellaria media, an annual plant, which is referred to as troublesome weed, nevertheless it contains a number of important substances such as: ascorbic acid, carbohydrates, peptides, glycosides, lipids and higher fatty acids, carotenoids and flavonoids. Recently they are...
