The Spanish translation of the Holan's poem A Night with Hamlet (Noc s Hamletem)
MODROVÁ, Kristina
This diploma thesis deals with the Spanish translation of A Night with Hamlet (1964), written by Vladimír Holan (1905-1980). It was the first work of Holan's translated into Spanish in 1970, due to an unusual collaboration of two authors who called it Una noche con Hamlet y otros poemas. The Czech linguist, translator and avademic teacher Josef Forbelský (*1930) and the Spanish poet, literary scientist and academic pedagogue Guillermo Carnero (*1947) worked on this translation together. Both of them did not approach the translation of A Night with Hamlet only as a job opportunity, the translational cooperation for them also had a unique personal importance. This work focuses on the circumstances of the translation and it attempts to comment on the way the poem was translated. Furthermore it focuses on the analysis of individual fragments using the methods described below. It reveals not only the environment and the era in which the work was made, but also comments on specific translational shifts.
