Writing memoirs on the turn of the 19th and 20th century as a literary and historical source

This thesis evaluates selected literary memoirs, as esthetic artifacts and historical documents. The selected literary works are: Karolina Světlá: Upomínky (Osvěta, 1874), Z literárního soukromí (Ženské listy, 1880), Alois Jirásek: Z mých pamětí (1907), Eliška Krásnohorská: Co přinesla léta I, II (1928). The framework of the thesis encompasses a balance between fiction and historical fact, describing the relationship between truth and probability, and simultaneously following a self-reflection of the authors on their works. This thesis also analyses similarities and differences in the portrayal of problems of those times, as described by the individual authors, and thus characterises their artistic styles and literary genres.

The aim of this study is to compare literary activity of two Czech writers in the 19th century - Karolina Světlá and Eliška Krásnohorská. Based on selected texts of the authors is made a characteristic of their literary activities and typology of the main characters and their fates. In addition to the literary work of both these authors it will not be overlooked their personal life and commitment to the emancipation of women. The introductory section is focused on the characteristic of years of 19th century from the perspective of the statues of a women in Czech society and its development. The conclusion summarizes the work of both authors and compares their activities.
Men´s and Women´s Style (in Written Communication)

The thesis you are reading is aimed at the stylistic analysis of the masculine and feminine aspects of communication, provided the texts are a part of the functional style present within the belles letters. The questions are analysed either from the point of view of the teller, or from the point of view of the characters. The findings are more or less significant differences between the language style of men and women and those conclusions are the basis of the linguistic analysis of this thesis. The first section features the general theories of stylistics, the specific denotations of men and women which may be the cause of the divergence of their wording, and finally there is a selection of the theories that analyse the communication of men and women present as well. The following section contents are the particular analysis that either confirms or refutes these general theories. After the preceding analysis of the individual prose appearances, their reciprocating comparison is assigned to it. The analysis is performed from four cardinal levels of each language point of view: the level of phonology, morphology, syntax and lexicology. And finally, the conclusion summarizes the characteristic features of the masculine and feminine communicational denotations.
