Accommodation of transgender people in housing facilities of social services

This bachelor's thesis studies how transgender people are accommodated in housing facilities of social services. The thesis aims to find out in which ways housing facilities of social services meet and in which ways do not meet the needs of transgender people in the process of accommodation. As the number of people who openly identify as transgender continues to increase, it is a realistic assumption that the number of openly transgender users of residential social services will be increasing as well. It is therefore necessary to consider the possibilities and ways in which the provision of residential services can be adapted to meet the client's needs without compromising their identity. At present, users of most housing facilities of social services are accommodated based on the gender indicated on their identity cards. However, this type of accommodation may not be in line with the client's perception of self and may therefore represent a barrier to meeting their needs. This is also problematic given that the use of these services may be a response to leaving an environment that was hostile to transgender people.
