Sculpture from 1966-1989 in the Public Space of Prague. Contemporary Reception and Methods of Treatment

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of sculpture from 1966-1989 in Prague's public space. Through specific examples of works, the most significant paradigms of deterioration of art in public space are presented, which depend on contemporary reception and treatment. The period in question is defined by the validity of the decree on the application of artistic design in investment construction. The government resolution defined the principles for securing funding of one to four percent for the artistic design of buildings, public spaces and urban concepts. Thanks to state support for art, a large number of realisations were created in Czechoslovakia, which were often left to decay and destruction after the fall of the regime. The introductory chapter describes the cultural and historical circumstances of the creation of these works of art in public spaces in Prague. The main part of the thesis deals with a detailed analysis of specific sculptural realizations with emphasis on their current condition. These works are categorized subsequently: removal, replacement, absent care and preservation of the work of art.
