Music education as a means to improve classroom climate

The diploma thesis deals with the use of music education as a means of improving the classroom climate at the first grade of primary school. The aim is to map a wide range of music education activities and propose specific music education activities that will contribute to the positive development of classroom climate. The theoretical part first introduces the developmental characteristics of the young school-age child, especially cognitive, emotional and social development. Next, it defines key concepts related to classroom climate and the basic principles of music education at the first grade of primary school. It also analyzes and specifies music education activities that promote overall well- being in the classroom. The educational activities are divided into five areas that are key in forming a quality classroom climate. The practical part focuses on transforming the classroom climate through the implementation of the aforementioned music education activities in practice. The research results are evaluated through a questionnaire survey. The final part of the thesis summarizes the findings and provides suggestions for pedagogical practice that can be applied for the effective use of music education as a tool for improving the classroom climate at the first grade of primary school. The English Language as an Activating Element in the Teaching of Music Education at Secondary Schools

The bachelor thesis is concerned with the utilisation of the English language as an activating element in the teaching of music education at secondary schools. It analyses the relationship between music and language and provides a theoretical explanation and characterisation of teaching and activating methods. The thesis also examines the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education and explores possibilities for interdisciplinary connections between music education and the English language. Based on theoretical knowledge, the thesis proposes specific possibilities of application of the English language into music education. Sonatas by Johann Kuhnau and their Use during Piano Lessons

This thesis deals with the life and work of Johann Kuhnau and focuses mainly on the following categories: 1. The life and work of Johann Kuhnau 2. The work for keyboard musical instruments 3. Sonatas by Johann Kuhnau 4. The use of his sonatas during piano lessons This thesis deals with a biography of Johann Kuhnau and presents his works for keyboard instruments. This is followed by a short chapter about a sonata form, its definition and progression. The third chapter is focuses on the sonatas by Johann Kuhnau, especially on his fourth collection named Biblical Sonatas which are presented here in the context of stories from the Old Testament. The final chapter focuses on the didactic and interpretive knowledge of Kuhnau's sonatas from his third and fourth collections for keyboard instruments. The aim of the work is to introduce Johann Kuhnau to reader, to point out his contribution in the field of music and to present the possibilities of working with his collections for keyboard instruments in teaching the piano at today's art schools. Jana Palkovská ABSTRACT: This disertation thesis deals with the history of piano duets including the pedagogical aspects of contemporary education at music schools in the Czech Republic. This theme has not yet been explored in this country. The thesis is divided into two parts. The primary aim of the first part is to determine the earliest mention of piano duet composition and to explore the periods which influenced subsequent development of the subject using deductive, progressive,typological and biographical methods. The author describes the development of duet compositions, including important milestones and personalities, from the turn of 16th and 17th century through the 20th century. The second part of the thesis includes qualitative research using data collected from teachers in the Czech Republic. The research focuses on the educational topic of piano duets within piano education. The results of the research confirm that even though there is a tradition of including this topic in music education, there is only a partial understanding of the subject.
