Chemical variability of garnets from the České středohoří Mountains and characterization of their mineral inclusions

The samples of garnets used in this study come from clastic sediments from the drillcores Tř-1 and T-31, selected localities of the České středohoří Mountains and garnet-bearing ultramafic rocks sampled by the drillcore T-7. The contents of the major and some minor elements were determined by an electron probe microanalyzer. The garnets from the sediments were divided into 3 groups according to the contents of the end-members: 1) pyrope-, 2) almandine - pyrope- and 3) grosular - almandine-rich. Garnets from the drillcore T-7 were classified according to individual rock types in which they occurred: lherzolite, hazburgite, pyroxenite, eclogite and granulite. Chemical analyzes of garnets displayed the presence of positive correlations Cr vs. Ca vs. Ti Mn in pyrope grains. The contents of trace elements in garnets were studied by an LA-ICP-MS. After normalization to the CI-reservoir, garnets most often show lherzolite profiles of rare earth elements. Garnets of intense red and purple colors show slightly sinusoidal REE profiles. Metamorphism and geodynamics of the Proterozoic Kabul Block: Preservation and modification of crustal fragments within an orogenic zone

The Kabul Block is a lenticular crustal fragment that, along with the Farah, Helmand, and Nuristan terranes, is situated within a tectonic zone known as the Afghan Central Blocks. The Afghan Cent- ral Blocks form within the collision zone between the Indian, Eurasian, and Arabian plates. The Kabul Block consists of a highly-deformed crystalline basement overlain by weakly-deformed Late Paleozoic- Mesozoic sediments. U/Pb SHRIMP analysis of zircon cores from the lowermost basement formations (the Sherdarwaza and/or Khair Khana) indicates the presence of a Neoarchean component (~ 2700 Ma), while the majority of zircon cores yield a range of Early Paleoproterozoic ages (2200 - 2500 Ma). The Sherdarwaza and Khair Khana Formations are comprised of migmatite and orthogneiss with minor marble, quartzite, and amphibolite that reached granulite-facies conditions. Conventional geother- mobarometry and phase equilibria modelling on well preserved granulite-facies assemblages indicates that the rocks reached conditions of approximately 850 řC at up to 7 kbar of pressure. Diploma thesis - Kateřina Schlöglová - 2011 1/2 English abstract Granulites of the Rychleby Mts. represent relics of high-pressure eclogite-facies metamorphic rocks that are scattered in various crustal and mantle segments of the Variscan orogen in central Europe. These rocks may provide important insights into early stages of Variscan plate convergence and burial as well as exhumation mechanisms. We use mineral assemblages and chemistry to reconstruct the pressure-temperature paths, mechanisms of melting, and conditions of mineral preservation of high-pressure granulites, as well as whole- rock geochemistry to aid in interpretation of granulite precursors and their geodynamic setting. The mafic granulites consist of garnet, omphacite, two feldspars, and quartz with accessory rutile and zircon. The peak assemblage was partly replaced by pargasitic amphibole and biotite. Garnet grains are zoned from Grs36Py10Alm54 (core) to Grs20Py38Alm42 (rim), and host inclusions of phengite, omphacite, unmixed feldspars, kyanite, and rutile. Omphacite composition varies from Di44Hd14Jd42 (inclusions in garnet) through Di63Hd20Jd17 (porphyroblasts) and Di63Hd24Jd13 (symplectitic intergrowths with plagioclase). Application of Balanced Scorecard

This Master's thesis applies a method Balanced Scorecard in company Lach-Ner, s.r.o., which is part of chemical business in Czech republic. The teoretic part consists of a description of strategy creation, strategic analysis and clarification of the method Balanced Scorecard. The practical part contains strategic analysis including determination of weaknesses and strenghts, opportunities and threats. In the following chapters there is determination of strategic goals in particular perspectives of Balanced Scorecard and strategic map is created. Strategy map is the outcome of the thesis and it is a key tool for strategic management of the company.
Financial analysis of Olma, a.s.

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to evaluate the financial situation in Olma, a.s. during years 2006 -- 2010. The thesis is divided in two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part there are specified important terms and used methods, in the practical parts the company is analysed with horizontal and vertical analysis of the balance sheet and profit and loss account, ratio indicators, net working capital analysis and creditworthy and bankruptcy models. The company is compared to three competitors. In the conclution there are summarized the most important results and recommendations.
The importance of credit rating and international rating agencies on the stability of global financial markets

Credit rating agencies (CRAs) play an integral part in today's financial markets. Through ratings they express considered opinion about future creditworthiness of an obligor and thus lower information asymmetry in the capital markets. Recently, CRAs have been brought in the spotlight as they are often blamed for being the triggers of the recent market turmoil. Critics often argue that ratings of tranches of structured finance instruments, backed by subprime mortgages, were unjustifiably high, downgrades were too late and the overall integrity of the rating process was compromised through numerous conflicts of interests CRAs face. However, in this thesis I argue that CRAs were put in this position rather through external factors than their own actions. Massive regulation usage of ratings, rapid growth of structured securities market, overdependence on the rating and the overall ignorance of the meaning of rating itself are the actual causes to blame.
