Biblioverse – Multifunctional building with library
Mikulová, Veronika ; Kaftan, Martin (referee) ; Bykov, Oleksii (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the design of a multifunctional building with a library in Brno on the corner of Štefánikova and Dřevařská streets. The main part of the building are the workshops, which accompany the visitor through the whole process of book creation, from paper making, through printing to book binding. The whole process of book creation is rounded off by the library, which houses a collection of books and other craft products created in these workshops. Nowadays, the library often becomes a cultural institution with a very broad focus, and the status of books sometimes takes a back seat. The aim of this work is not to criticize the current direction of these institutions and their interest in evolving with the times, but to try to highlight the book as a timeless and irreplaceable medium. The book is therefore seen as a medium that, in addition to its content value, also has the value of a physical arts and crafts object.

The library project is located in Brno on a plot of land at the corner of Štefánikova and Dřevařská streets. Through the theme "Biblioverse - a multifunctional building with a library", the aim was to find a new type of library. In my design, therefore, two components - conceptual and programmatic - are closely intertwined. The concept is based on the connection between antiquarian bookshops and a library whose contents are made up of discarded books. Programmatically, the two parts are then linked and intertwined vertically. My aim was to design a library that works on the basis of a kind of mutual cooperation. of the visitor and the library offer, or the visitor's contribution to the operation and content of the book collection. It would be an additional branch of public libraries. The form of the building is based on simple legibility and the allocation of the different parts to the functions, which are vertically interwoven into the other floors. Also, with the building itself, I tried to create continuity in the passage of the street line but at the same time creating smaller spaces in front of the given entrances to the different parts, serving as nooks and crannies in this corner. That is to say, to try to keep as much as possible the current quiet character of Dřevařská Street, but at the same time the varied and lively character of the mostly parterres on Štefánikova Street.

The concept of designing a public music library is closely connected to the Library of Jiří Mahen in Brno. Nowadays the library is facing problems regarding the lack of space for the development of its potential. There are also rigorous restrictions in place in relation to reconstruction due to the library's residence being in a rennaissance era Schrattenbach palace. Designing a partner institution, which could take on some functions of the library could provide necessary space to the existing library building. From the current amenities of the library, the music library has the biggest potential to fuction separately with additional functions focused on the creation and production of music. With audio media being the the focal point of a public library broadens the definition of a library beyond its traditional framework - now it can be seen as an institution where objects, information and activities are pulled from the private sphere into a public one.
New city block on Rybářská Street
Lichý, Erik ; Kaftan, Martin (referee) ; Františák, Luboš (advisor)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to create an urban ensemble on site surrounded by Rybářská and Poříčí street and on a nearby brownfield that is in place of a former factory “Kras”. A part of the thesis is also a design of two chosen buildings in the designed development. As a part of the solution of one of the designed residential blocks, attention is paid to one of the corner houses, which is supported to bring a student dormitory with a place for coworking to the area. The second element making up the given block is terraced development of smaller apartment buildings, the so-called townhouse. One of the main ideas was the effort to naturally connect the new development to the existing development and at the same time to adapt to the newly emerging embank of the river Svratka.
Clay architecture in Provence
Pániková, Natália ; Achten, Henri (referee) ; Kaftan, Martin (advisor)
Huge extremes in weather behavior in past years make me thinking closer to the climate changes architecture. An architecture that can bring better living. As for the specific area of interest I choose Provence in France, where the weather is extreme in comparison with other parts of France and temperatures are increasing every day. In this region hot weather was always present, but in modern standards, comfort zone of indoor space is rather unsatisfactory and modern houses are normally equiped with air conditioning from the beginning. The need for this is a global problem of rising temperatures as well as change in building the houses. In history houses were build from noble limestone material which thermal capacity was able to keep indoor cooler for longer time in summer and also warm inside longer in winter. Nowadays, there is shortage of the limestone, thnaks to which its price is rising and socialy lower layers of society choose the much less expensive option - concrete in its poured version - for appartment buildings or as concrete blocks for single houses. Provence is a region where we can to the contrary expect many changes in the future. And it is not only rising temperatures, but also abnormal extreme weather or rising level of the sea, due to global weather cycles.
Interactive architecture

Interactive architecture The world today is constantly dynamically changing. Along with the world, the environment in which people live is changing as well. Architecture, which has been focused on improving and enhancing the surrounding environment for the benefit of mankind since the beginning of humanity, now has the opportunity to come to life and become interactive thanks to technological advancements. Interactive architecture, which dynamically adapts to changing conditions and human needs, can lay the foundation for a robust and adaptable solution that could contribute to more resilient and sustainable architecture in the future. In this work, the use of contemporary digital design techniques will allow the potential of the ancient art of origami - the art of folding paper - to be combined with today’s technology. Thanks to this connection, it is possible to create architecture that will be able to change and adapt to various human needs. This thesis focuses on the digitisation of origami, the development of structures inspired by the Miura origami pattern, the transition from paper shells to kinetic movable shells, and the development of a digital tool capable of designing and controlling the behaviour of interactive shells. The behaviour of the interactive components will be tested through digital simulations.
Architecture of the extreme

Extreme conditions in both the climate, and socio-political sphere, that is east african South Sudan. The recently concluded peace after tens of years of uncertainty means a new beginning and hope for a better tomorrow. After the constant displacement of the local population due to the neverending conflicts and resurging civil wars, the inhabitants can now return to their home territory, where they will have to buildtheir homes from scratch. One of the most important aspects for the development of any society is a stable home. With regard to the traditional communal way of life, it is natural to think about new and improved possibilities of construction in these areas. Is it possible to create something new with the help of materials available on site? Can we involve locals in the construction, train them, and help create new job opportunities in the process? How to deal with the hot tropical climate and the lack of purified water without the need for too much energy, while still raising the standards of living of the locals?
The End of the Coal Era - regeneration of the Karviná region after shutting down the coal mining industry and the future of the locality Karviná-Doly

The diploma thesis deals with the search for a suitable use of the post-industrial landscape and its relics. The country is being plundered after intensive mining, the removal of environmental burdens will take decades, and social and economic structures are being disrupted. The author of the diploma thesis tries to reflect on these problems and offer possible partial solutions.
Form follows wind energy

Architecture of the extreme

"The need to get food, build a camp resistant to storms and torrents drove us all to work. The leader worked together with us, but did not make the conditions easier for us. On the contrary, the order to use in the construction on the site of tree boards, which we had to cut down and process in the thickets, meant a new piece of work. Sometimes, tired of remorse, I remembered home, especially when the still rain and gloomy sky discouraged us newcomers. However, what kept me going and pushed me forward was the interest in this Robinsonade and my pride. I didn't show the feelings that were shaking through me at the time. If the others can handle it, I will persevere as well. My nature can't stand me standing last. And this pride helped me overcome femininity. So I remembered my beginnings as scouting and felt a warm joy at the calm awareness of my fitness today. ” _Jiří Wolker: To those to whom I belong //Project goal The main goal of this work coincides with the mission and purpose of the association Junák - Czech Scout, z .: "To support the development of young people's personalities in accordance with the principles and methods of scouting." //Means The means to fulfill the main goal is to build a scout camp in which children are involved. Specifically, 25 boys aged 7-15 who are members of the 14th Regulus Líšeň section. Together with 10 other leaders, they go to the "Hodíškov" camp every year, where they spend the first 14 days of the summer holidays. The construction of the camp is preceded by a design, which is the subject of this work.
