Regional variants of German in the work of Christine Nöstlinger
Leová, Yen Nhi ; Zeman, Dalibor (advisor) ; Kafka, Clemens (referee)
This bachelor's thesis analyzes a linguistic phenomenon known as "austriacisms" and its use in Austrian German. The thesis is divided into two main parts: the theoretical and the analytical. The theoretical part analyzes different language varieties and their occurrence in the Austrian context. This includes terms such as "variety," "dialect," and "colloquial language," as well as specific characteristics of the German language in Austria, including austriacisms. This part serves as a basis for understanding the linguistic phenomena analyzed in the practical part. The analytical part then examines austriacisms in "Konrad oder das Kind aus der Konservenbüchse" by Christine Nöstlinger. This part identifies and analyses these linguistic phenomena and examines whether they are recognized and used by people in the age groups 10-13 years and 14-17 years. The results confirm the hypothesis that these expressions are generally recognized and commonly used in current communication.
The impact of the usage of swear words in computer games on the speech of youth measured on the let's-play videos
Šindelka, Jan ; Kafka, Clemens (advisor) ; Broukalová, Jindra (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of using swear words while playing computer games. The question of whether playing computer games influences the use of profanity in youth language will be answered. The work will be watching selected "Let's Players" who play and comment on computer games, of which they make a video recording, which they later publish on, for example, YouTube or similar online platforms. On the basis of these videos, research into the speech used will be carried out. In this work, video recordings will be analyzed with an emphasis on the use of few words. Individual dirty words will be analyzed using the Duden dictionary. The possible influence of the English language on the use of profanity in the German language will also be investigated. Key words: Swear words, computer games, let's play, colloquial speech, youth speech
Comparison of the "integration plans for refugees" of the Ministry of Education in the Czech and German language areas using the example of the Prague Spring, the Civil War in Syria, and the Russian-Ukrainian War
Peřinová, Anna Magdaléna ; Kafka, Clemens (advisor) ; Botlík Nuc, Tomáš (referee)
After Ukraine was invaded by Russia in 2022, one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the last few years has occurred. The wave of Ukrainian refugees has found their refuge and protection mainly in the surrounding countries, which have since been trying to integrate them into society until the war ends. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to find out what consequences the Ukrainian refugee wave has on the educational system of individual states. The emphasis is on the adaptation of elementary schools and the integration of Ukrainian refugee children into the collective. For this purpose, the method of analysis of the integration plans of the ministries of education of the Czech Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Austria was chosen. This analysis was then supplemented by the interview method with teachers and sitting in on classes at Czech and Austrian primary schools. The results of the survey show the far-reaching problems that schools must face when integrating refugees. Despite the long-term experience of some states with the integration of refugees, integration plans do not always correspond with the reality that prevails in schools. Nevertheless, the conducted research found that teachers manage the situation well and are well supported materially. The main...
Comics as a method for improvement of redaing skills in the teaching of german as foreign language
Neradová, Zuzana ; Kafka, Clemens (advisor) ; Botlík Nuc, Tomáš (referee)
An increase in reading competence proceeds in five stages, with the fifth stage being literary competence, in which readers can absorb and evaluate the entire emotional world of the story and all the implicit information it contains. Increasing reading competence has a positive impact on both overall language ability and intercultural competence. One possible method to increase reading literacy is through comics - pictorial or other characters arranged in spatial sequences to convey information and/or create an aesthetic effect on the viewer - which have several advantages such as short texts, context given by pictures or authentic language. Comics offer a direct method of delivery of the emotions contained in the text. To test the effectiveness of comic books in increasing literacy, an experiment was conducted with two adaptations of E.M. Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front" - in a linguistically simplified version and in a literature comic form. The study showed that at A2 level, simple language books are more suitable for increasing reading literacy, as the measured increase in reading literacy was 20% higher for the students who worked with the linguistically simplified version than for those who worked with the literature comic. KEYWORDS Comics, Graphic Novel, Reading Literacy, All...
Utilization of online platforms in the German lessons
Pidych, Tomáš ; Kafka, Clemens (advisor) ; Nečasová, Pavla (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is looking to explore what digital content there currently is on the internet that could be effectively made use of as a tool in teaching German. It describes the potential use cases of the individual digital sources and tries to find out to what extent they are more or less efficient compared to printed materials such as coursebooks. The theoretical part adumbrates the existing research in the field of multimedia didactics, the design principles of multimedia teaching aids and the mechanisms of human sensory perception. It classifies the existing types of media and examines the developments and the recent tendencies in juvenile media consumption with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic. The practical part mediates some insight into the course of the experiment connected with this thesis. Two groups of the same age are involved. One (Group B) is subject to multimedia enhanced classes while the other (Group A) holds classes that only use printed aids. Both groups take a complex entry test before the experiment and a final test when the experiment is finished, both accentuating free writing and translation. All of the collected sentences are analyzed in selected grammatical categories in order to quantify which of the groups made more prominent progress. Group A starts off as more...
