Professional competence of people practicing canistherapy across organizations.
KAŠÍKOVÁ, Marie
The bachelor thesis deals with the professional competence of canistherapists across organizations. It refers to education and training that canistherapists had to attend in individual organizations. The theoretical part contains the concepts of zootherapy and canistherapy. In the introductory part of the thesis, I deal with the history of these terms, terminology in zootherapy, methods and forms of canistherapy. The next chapters explain the terms such as the canistherapy worker and team. It also includes the preparation of a dog for a canistherapeutic exam and, last but not least, its prerequisites for its successful composition. At the end of the theoretical part, I deal with the concept of positioning and also mention the umbrella organization of canistherapy, both worldwide and in the Czech Republic. The aim of the practical part was to find out how the professional competence of canistherapists varies across organizations in České Budějovice, Třebíč and Jihlava. A qualitative research was chosen for this part. The results were investigated through the questioning method and the semi-structured interview technique. Two major research questions have been compiled. RQ1: What training did canistherapists undergo in each organization? And RQ2: What kind of education do canistherapists have in individual organizations? The research was carried out on the basis of a personal meeting with six canistereaputs, each of whom was doing a canistherapy test with a dog at another organization, with three canisterapists working in Třebíč, one in Jihlava and two in České Budějovice. Results were processed using open coding. This thesis could be beneficial for organizations to choose canistherapists with proper education, training, and experience of canistherapy in their facility.
