Of activists and people: A discourse analysis of selected cases of political activism in the Czech context

The thesis deals with media representation of protests in the Czech media. They are anti-communist protests, student, "anti - austerity", anti-Roma and anti-racist or antifascist. The author has used critical discourse analysis on a sample of media texts from 1/2008 to 7/2014 period. It focused on analyzing the labeling of protesters, representing the relationship between the protests and democracy and the protesters and society or "ordinary people". The author concludes that labeling the protesters as well as representation of the relationship between protest and democracy in the reference sample strongly reflects the overall concept of the Czech post-communist identity as the one that emphasizes moderation, but also individualism or rather minimalist definition of politics as limited to the party or parliamentary politics. As congruent are usually presented anticommunist protests and student protests, on the other hand suspicious or problamatic are framed union protests or "radical" or "extrem" protests.

(in English): Populism in the United States (US) has consistently been considered a specific third stream of US policy - from the People's Party to Ross Perot who criticized both the Republican Party,1 and the Democrats. This bachelor's thesis will examine the differences between contemporary left-wing and right-wing populism in the USA by employing the method of quantitative linguistics. The frequency of certain statements and terms used by the US presidential candidates in their speeches will be compared. Being the most recent presidential candidates, D. Trump, B. Sanders, H. Clinton, and B. Obama are selected as main comparison for this study. 1 also known as the GOP (Grand Old Party)

Populism in the United States (US) has become an essential theme in American politics - starting from People's Party in 1892 to today's US president Donald J. Trump. This bachelor's thesis will examine the differences between contemporary left-wing and right-wing populism in the US by employing the method of frequency analysis. The context and the frequency of the word "people" used by the US presidential candidates in their speeches will be compared. As the main comparison for this study there are three candidates represented from the Democratic Party and one from the Republican Party: Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Donald J. Trump, respectively.

Attitudes to Politics among Students in Czech republic

The thesis is focused on the political participation of university students in the Czech Republic. This topic has not been studied there yet. The aim of the research is to find out whether university students in the Czech Republic participate in politics. To this attitude we want to find the reasons and motivation and the forms in which the participation takes place. We also want to determine how students perceive themselves from a socioeconomic point of view, on a left-right scale, or with which ideology, political party or regime they identify. Taking into account the long-term trend of TOP 09 support among youth and especially students, we will try to get a more detailed characterization of this group of citizens. The data are obtained from 365 questionnaires structured into several thematic units at micro, meso and macro levels that correspond to the expected impact on political participation. We also deal with the relationship of students to the regime, the openness of the system to participation and its forms, internal efficiency. The analysis showed that 95 % of the students participate in politics. The most used forms are election attendance, petition signature and participation in group action. Motherhood as Ideological Tool

Bachelor thesis sets a goal to depict a normative view on motherhood in an era of the State socialism in the 60s and beginning of the 70s in discourse of expert group State (Governmental) Population Committee and its transformation according to political changes in the Czechoslovakia. Research is based on interpretation of Reports of Population committee which represent essential source to observe gender arrangement in the State socialism and even normative motherhood. Era of the 60s and the 70s have gone through many political and socio-economic changes. I presumed the political changes will affect the gender arrangement. Although the research showed that political system transformations maintain traditional gender roles and the State uses women's body as a tool to reach economic and political interests. Discourse analysis of debates on the general referendum in the Czech Republic 1989-2014

The subject of the thesis is the Czech Republic parliamentary debate about a national referendum spanning from 1989 to 2014. It is mapping the evolution of the debates on the base of stenographic protocols from the proceedings concerning national referendum bill, as discussed by Chamber of deputies of the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of the thesis is based on current debates about direct democracy. The metodological part of the thesis is using concepts and terminology of the discoursive approach of R. Wodak. Based on this approach, the analysis of the debates is focusing on the main discoursive elements, those are, context framing, inter - discoursive relations, the main issues of the debates, reasoning and identification of the participants. The second level analysis is putting the debates about national referendum into the the context with contemporary debates about direct democracy. In the last part of the thesis the results of the analysis are discussed.
