Language Curriculum Development in Bachelor Study Programmes of Czech Technical Faculties

The doctoral thesis is focused on language curriculum development in Bachelor Study Programmes of Czech technical faculties. In the theoretical part, key ideas about the development of European higher education are outlined, including visions of its further course. It also deals with the analysis of the European Union and the Council of Europe's language policy and its implementation into the state language policy of the Czech Republic at the tertiary level. The state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of curriculum theory is presented, as well as different conceptions of language curriculum, including traditional approaches to its development and the factors which influence it. The empirical part describes the research whose aim was to find out relevant data about English language curriculum development in Bachelor Study Programmes of Czech technical faculties, and based on the data gained, to give a description of the way in which the language curricula were developed. The research was based on a mixed methodological approach. From quantitative methods, a questionnaire was chosen and from qualitative methods, a non- quantitative content analysis of documents was used.
