Freedom to Images! Between Reality, Imagination and Memory in Film and Moving Image in Contemporary Czech Art

This bachelor's thesis deals with the examination, mapping and reflection of mutual relations between film/moving image, imagination and memory in the field of contemporary Czech visual arts. It is primarily based on two impulses that are closely connected to each other and represent events that are quite common today, but still little reflected in the context of Czech art and film theory and criticism. The first of them is the relocation of films and moving images, which represent a variety of technical scenes of an experimental nature or different materiality (video, digital images, computer graphics), into the spaces of galleries and exhibition halls. The second impulse is the convergence of fine art and film/moving image, which is closely related to this particular relocation. The text tries to point out the importance and essentiality of the fusion of these two spheres as well as the relocation of film/moving images into gallery spaces. Above all, it is concerned with presenting the fact of the fundamental transformation taking place in our everyday perceptual experience with given media thanks to the aforementined movements and convergences.
