The Work of John Reed, Louise Bryant and Eugene O'Neill in the Context of The Provincetown Players
JEŽKOVÁ, Simona
he main aim of this thesis is to present the work of Eugene O'Neill, Louise Bryant and John Reed in the context of the Provincetown Players. The first chapter presents a picture of American society at the turn of the 20th century, shows the state in which culture and, above all theatre could be found, and, considering the previously mentioned, deals with the reason for the creation of one of the most important amateur theatres in America. The second chapter briefly presents the history of the Provincetown Players, their biggest achievements and the most important members. We then conclude the theory with a chapter mapping the life of O'Neill, Bryant and Reed before coming to Provincetown, their later stay in this seaside town, and also their mutual relationship, which affected them both personally and professionally. With this in mind, in the second part of the thesis, we study three selected works by those authors, namely The Game by Louise Bryant, The Eternal Quadrangle by John Reed and finally, Thirst by Eugene O'Neill. In this last chapter, we not only analyze the plot, motives, themes and form of individual plays, but we will also look for the links with the real world and the connection between the trio of those artists.
Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and its European policy 1986-2007
Ježková, Simona ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Mejstřík, Martin (referee)
This master's thesis, titled Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and its Approach to European Integration 1986-2007, analyses an era of twenty-plus years in which the party, led by Jörg Haider, underwent a major ideological shift. The FPÖ abandoned its original liberal pro-European position and, in the 1990s, became a Eurosceptic populist movement akin to the far right. This work aims to assess whether these shifts can be described using the theories formulated by Paul Taggart and Aleks Szczerbiak and by Nick Sitter - who postulate that a party's participation in government is among the factors influencing the degree to which it is Eurosceptic. They suggest that a party's rhetoric regarding the European Union tamps down if the party participates in the government, becoming a part of a coalition government or supporting a minority government. During the period examined in this thesis, the FPÖ was a part of three governing coalitions. It was also a period of significant events which enable us to analyse the FPÖ's conduct - in particular, the Austrian accession to the EC/EU, the adoption of treaties modifying the functioning of the EU, the Austrian presidencies of the Council of the EU in 1998 and 2006, the European Parliament elections and their representative's activities in the EP, the process of...
Film Adaptation of Literary Work in Theory and Practice
JEŽKOVÁ, Simona
In this bachelor's thesis, we will deal with the issue of a film adaptation of literary works in theory and practice. The work is divided into two significant parts. In the first part, we focus on the term of adaptation, which is an important process in the artistic environment, but also in the evolution one. Furthermore, we briefly present the history and development of film adaptations and deal with the finding of leading literary and film critics and theorists in the field of adaptation studies. In the second part, which is conducted as practical, we will introduce some basic literary and film techniques and their subsequent use in individual works of art. The books Milenci a vrazi [Lovers and Murderers] (1968) by Vladimír Páral, Misery (1987) by Stephen King, Heroic Measures (2009) by Jill Ciment and The Orchid Thief (1998) by Susan Orleans became the subject of research. All the works were adapted to the film screen at least once at a certain time. Literary works and their film adaptations were selected on the basis of significant differences in the use of narrative, ie. verbal and visual means.

This thesis deals with the phenomena of Austrian and German populism that is represented by two political parties - Freedom Party of Austria (Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs, FPÖ) and Alternative for Germany (Alternative für Deutschland, AfD). The work focuses mainly on political manifestos that were published in the run up to the elections to German Bundestag and Austrian National Council that were held in July and September 2017.
