Transfer of Vegetarian Value Model from Parents onto Their Childern

This bachelor's thesis is, as the itself name indicates, concerned with the concept of education of children by their parents - vegetarians, possibly vegans. What is examined is whether they are trying to transfer their own model of values - vegetarianism or veganism onto the child, but also what aspects will influence their future value orientation the most during the course of their primary socialisation. The influence of the informing parent's partner as well as that of grandparents on both sides is considered, further on the influence of the educational institution the child attends is factored in. It is there where the child is confronted with different norms and values than those that the child can be familiar with from the home and parents are then have to resolve the arisen situation. The thesis itself is divided into three main sections which are the following: Theoretical Introduction, Methodology and Research.The first section is dedicated to the theoretical background enabling the confimation of data necessary for the analysis itself. Specifically it outlines the value basis of vegetarianism, explains the difference between vegetarianism and its more radical form veganism. It delineates the influence of family and educational institutions on the latter value orientation of the child....
Changes in Thinking About Science: Parallels of M. Foucault's Concept of Episteme and T.S. Kuhn's Concept of Paradigm

This work is focused on introduction of two science theorists Michel Foucault and Thomas S. Kuhn and their concepts of science itself. The crucial concept of Michel Foucaults work is the episteme which can be understood as epistemological field which knowledge is enabled. Foucault puts this concept into the field of archaeology of knowledge which is a methodological tool for his research. Further in the work the term discourse is explained which is used as an information value of certain epoch. This work also structures Foucaults three historical times of episteme which are interdivided by discontinuities. In Thomas S. Kuhn perception the paradigm is the key concept. This concept is the pattern of scientific research of particular historical period and represents values and approaches to research. Paradigm works in normal science as a cycle in which the cumulation of problems - anomaly - is present. When the science reaches the point where explanation of anomalies is impossible the revolution of science takes place and the whole cycle starts again. The last part of this work compares these two crucial concepts.

Construction of realities of Influenced by out - of - Body experiences

This bachelor thesis concerns people who went through out-of-body experiences. It examines them in the perspective of social construction of reality. It concerns symbolic language which these people use to describe realities of finite provinces of meanings which they experience in their out-of-body experience. This thesis is mainly based on the book from two sociologists Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann Social construction of reality. The theoretical part is also based on books about mysticism, lucid dreaming, near-death experiences, psychedelic substances and shamanism. As a method autor uses narrative analysis and in interviews with informants he shows how these experiences affect them in their view on our everyday life and also in their attitude to death. Critique of positivism in social sciences

The aim of this thesis is to present a critique of positivism in social sciences. The first chapter is devoted to a presentation of what positivism is. We also learn that positivism is closely related to neopositivism and that in many definitons of these words, the word "metaphysics" appears. Second chapter is devoted to Peter Winch's book The idea of a social science and its relation to philosophy. Analysis of this book is presented and we are shown many dangers of positivistic approach regarding the investigation of society. A concept of understanding a society is introduced, which is based on understanding given society's rules. Third chapter presents philosophy of sicence from Martin Heidegger. First, the notion of "metaphysics" is explained. Then we move onto the explanation of the meaing of science and technology in modern society. At the end of the thesis, we are presented with a short comparison of Winch's and Heidegger's philosophy. Conclusion includes new possible routes that sociology could take.
