Michaelmas and the Possibilities of its Conception at a Waldorf Preschool
JAROŠOVÁ, Anna
The theoretical part of the bachelor's thesis deals with Waldorf pedagogy, namely with its key principles, origins, development and foundations. This part describes educational activities typical for Waldorf preschools and their importance in children's lives. It also includes a description of the personality of a teacher who follows principles of this pedagogical school. The following chapter is focused on particular seasons into which the school year in Waldorf preschool is divided. It explains the origins of individual festivals related to each season, mentions their importance for man's life and changes in nature which occur in that season. The chapter also presents activities and festivals traditionally organised in Waldorf preschools during the season concerned. Particular emphasis is put on the description of the Michaelmas season, which is unique to Waldorf schools. The practical part of the thesis focuses on Michaelmas, namely on its celebrations in some Waldorf preschools in the Czech Republic. The information on the programme of celebrations organised in Waldorf schools was gained through interviews with the teachers who work in Waldorf preschools. The final chapter of the thesis presents an integrated educational block which is relevant to the Michaelmas season and includes a range of specific educational activities, which could serve as useful sources of inspiration for preschool teachers.
