The aim of this work was to summarize the care for patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) in selected countries in Europe and the comparison among them including the Czech Republic. METHODOLOGY: Included information search in the bibliographic database www.pubmed.org and in a search engine www. google.com, information gained from questionnaires and web sites of spinal centers as well as a personal visit to a spinal centre in Glasgow. CONCLUSION: In 9 of the 10 selected countries, there exists comprehensive multidisciplinary care for patients with SCI. We can find four types of spinal centers in the selected countries. First a large centre, fully equipped and independent on other hospital care, with a comprehensive care including multidisciplinary care with a vocational therapy, a driving course, a surgical treatment of secondary complications and a special unit for sexual disorders and obstetrics (UK, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland). The second type is the spinal unit as a hospital department also with a multidisciplinary team (Italy, UK, Spain, Germany, France, Ireland). In both types of spinal centers the patients stay from initial time after the injury until discharge and then they visit outpatient department for follow up rehabilitation. Spasticity of Spinal Etiology - An Overview of the Most Frequently used Examination Methods and Proposed Functional Examination

The aim of the thesis "Spasticity of Spinal Etiology" is to create a complex overview of the spasticity of spinal etiology problems focused on the methods of measuring and evaluation of spasticity. The Theoretical part defines spasticity, the spastic syndrome of spinal etiology and methods used for investigation of patients. The practical part describes conditions and results of questionnaire research among physiotherapists; its aim was to discover which investigative methods and practice they use. The part Discussion presents a proposal of investigation based on the results of questionnaire and theoretical data, its aim is to define a relation between spasticity and functional abilities of a patient.
